100 years after Chick's death, this will be popular,
By Jimi Jr (Renton, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lyric Suite for Sextet (Audio CD)
These compositions explore harmonic textures that defy classification. Many aspects of 20th century harmony are present along with flavors of jazz, Latin music and haunting melodies from no clear historical musical tradition. The instruments are also timeless, acoustic piano, vibes and string quartet. Buy this for your grandchildren's children, they will be ready to hear this powerful, multidimensional music. When rock is dust and fusion has fizzeled, this music will endure.

a classic yet still a classic,
This review is from: Lyric Suite for Sextet (Audio CD)
This music transcends boundaries. I am writing this review in 2011 yet I bought this in vynil in 1986. And everytime I play it (now the CD I mean), it sounds as fresh as when it came out. Like listening to Rachmaninoff for example. This is a masterpiece and one of Chick Corea's most underrated albums. Here we have an artist of immense proportions, a true contemporary genius who can write "Armando's Rumba", passing through "Spain", "Bud Powell", and "No Mystery" and still delight us with this piece that blends impressionism, jazz and whatever hits your fancy. This is eternal music.
