Book Description

Book 1 in the Crime Tells series. Solving a case about pilfered pooches is pretty tame work for a vice cop, but when the victim is your grandmother, well… the police take care of their own. Trouble is, one look at Lyric Montgomery, the PI his grandmother has hired to recover her stolen dachshunds, and Kieran Burke knows he's got a problem. He's never been turned on so fast—or so attracted to a hellion with a reputation for breaking the law.Lyric Montgomery can't believe she's falling for a cop. She's always had a little problem staying inside the lines, and Kieran is definitely a complication she doesn't need. But his dominant, I'm-in-control attitude tempts her like fire tempts a pyromaniac.Kieran may lay down the rules, but he quickly finds out that for Lyric, breaking them is half the fun, especially when it drives him crazy and evokes his special brand of "punishment".As the trail heats up, it isn't the only thing burning hot enough to melt steel. Bad boy Kieran finds the only way to keep his sexy little pet detective safe may be tying her to his bed—permanently.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super hot erotic tale with an actual plot August 24, 2006
Format:Paperback
Lyric Montgomery is one of three sisters working for their Grandfather in his well known detective agency. Lyric has a particular specialty of being a pet detective. When she is called by a woman who was beaten up and had all 3 of her dachshunds stolen she is hot on the case. Lyric shows up at Anne's house to find her imposing grandson Kieran there and taking charge. Kieran is an alpha male vice cop who thinks things go one way, which is his way. But, he is stopped in his tracks by his attraction to Lyric.

Lyric is also never been turned on so fast in her life. But, no amount of attraction is going to make her give up her case, or play by someone else's rules, no matter how hot he is. She has always operated just on, or over the line, and that is what makes her good at what she does. As the case progresses Lyric finds that a number of dachshunds have disappeared. She is convinced that there may be foul play involved which could further endanger the animals, even putting them in harms way by exposing them to animal testing. This she won't stand for and pursues all means to solve the case. She even gets involved with an animals rights group the AFF.

Kieran may lay down the rules, but he quickly finds out that for Lyric, breaking them is half the fun, especially when it drives him crazy and evokes his special brand of "punishment". This may include tying Lyric to his bed to keep her out of trouble. Kieran's partner and a friend even start a betting pool at the station house as to how soon he will fall into the trap of a relationship with Lyric, and if either will survive.

As the danger heats up so does the passion with Lyric and Kieran. This story is erotic in nature and not for a young audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!!!!! March 8, 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This was the first book by Jory Strong that I read, and I loved it. I immediately purchased her other Crime Tells books, as well as "Trace's Psychic" and "Storm's Fairies". I started reading this book at 9pm, intending to read for an hour or two. I didn't stop reading until the end of the book (around 3am). It was just too good to put down. The attraction between Lyric and Kieran was HOT and believeable, but also funny, with Lyric frequently teasing and irritating Kieran into being even more dominant. The book definitely contained plenty of steamy sex scenes. But since I get bored with books that only have sex in them, I was thrilled that this one actually had a good plot, and great secondary characters. I actually cared about the plot, and I finished the book dying to know what's going to happen to the secondary characters when it's their turn to star in a book. I've now read 5 of Jory Strong's books, and I've really liked all of them. I'm ready for her to write more in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars He's a BULLY not an Alpha November 7, 2011
By Kany
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I usually like Jory Strong's writings. I'm not sure what happened with this book. Thank goodness it was free.

I liked her heroine a little but her Hero really needed work. Like the other reviewers said he was nothing but a bully. There was nothing dominant or alpha about him. He was mad when she wasn't waiting for him where he thought she should be. He was mad when she left the morning after. He was mad when she went with her sisters. He was mad when she got shot. This is not a D/s relationship or even the workings of one...this is the beginning of a domestic violence relationship.

2.0 out of 5 stars Jerk Not Bad Boy October 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I can never seem to resist when I see a mystery in the free books. It's like something about crime calls to me. I wish I had ignored the calling.
I've never read a mystery about missing pets before but I was willing to try it out, until I started reading about the humans trying to find them. The grandson is a world class jerk. If I was Lyric he wouldn't have anything left to dominate with. I can't stand jerks who think that they can control every move a woman makes.
Lyric on the other hand is like me in the fact that she likes to tease. The difference is how we tease. The only reason that I gave this two stars is because I thought that Lyric has potential and with an attitude ajustment so does Kerian.
I'm not sure if 'Jory' is a girl or boy name, but if all the books are written this way then it doesn't matter. The way this story was written it sounds like either a guy that daydreams about controlling women, or woman who daydreams about being controlled. And I'm only on chapter four.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea August 20, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Kindle Freebie. I started reading without seeing the cover, and it started out very good.
Don't get me wrong, I like mixing genres, and a little romance with crime is always good.
I should write two reviews for this book, because the crime part was actually well written and fun to read.
The romance part is just sex, and I was surprised to find it was written by a woman, it seemed very "male". I'm not a prude and I like sex, but it would have been nice to give their relationship more than lust. They never talk, they just <expletive> like rabbits without foreplay or afterglow and solve a crime together.
Not my thing.
I like variety in my sex scenes and not constantly the same formula, the same words recycled. The sex scenes read like a bad porn movie and they were the same. Every one of those dozen times.

The love angle was ok, but, the smut part wasn't needed. The sex was presented as cheep and dirty and made the book the same. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars eh, not so much
Unfortunately, the storyline wasn't as good as I expected, and the sex scenes were much more graphic and crude than I prefer.
