Talent is truly given by the MAN UPSTAIRS. Only talent will last. She is amazing. Everyone needs this album if what you are looking for is real hiphop. If Kim, 50 Cent and these jokes you consider real MCS then please dont waste ur money, but if Krs-one, Rakim, deLasoul is what u consider real hiphop get this album and see lyrical ingeniuty at its peak.

PEACE.

I have been a fan of MC LYTE from the start. Here is a very talented MC who is more than capable of rocking the mic. This album is very special as it is a very early effort from MC LYTE. Her ability to immerse the listener into her world is extra-ordinary. She shares her wisdom and insight with her audience in a very eloquent manner. MC LYTE is pure rap. Even today, despite its 1988 release, LYTE AS A ROCK continues to jam in the walkmans and CD players of true hip hop heads everywhere.
On 'Paper Thin', MC LYTE displays her amazing lyrical ability. She so delicately illustrates the importance of taking your time in a relationship. LYTE applies her knowledge to the track. This is the sign of a real MC. Trust me, this is a great jam. On 'Lyte Thee MC', LYTE shows us who is boss - she shows us just how dedicated she is to the artform of poetry. There is no competition when it comes to LYTE. None. 'I Cram To Understand U', produced by the Audio Two, is a classic old school hip hop jam. The beat of this jam is supreme. 'Kickin 4 Brooklyn' is slammin, and is also produced by the Audio Two. 'Lyte As A Rock', yet another Audio Two production, is a track which is almost too much for words - SLAMMIN!!! This uptempo track showcases MC LYTE's talent - The ultimate battle track. This track is sure to dismiss anyone who disses this album. Alliance, King of Chill and Prince Paul also produced tracks on this album. Can't forget those cats. Much love to them. '10% Dis' is great. On this track, MC LYTE shows her dominance on the mic. Never dis this MC, she rocks.
Buy this album if you apprecicate hip hop and its roots. 'LYTE AS A ROCK' came out in the 'Golden Age' of hip hop. Don't miss out.
Peace

This deserves more than 5 stars. If you think Lil Kim, Foxy, Trina or any of those trash female rappers out there today are the greatest, I suggest you to listen to this album. Mc Lyte was pure at its fullest. She delivered classics that are still legendary to this day. So forget the crap they play today and travel back into time with this album and you'll see why I hate today's MTV and BET with passion.

Mc Lyte is one of those pioneers that you have the upmost respect for because she doesnt sell out or use sex as a gimmick to sell records. Mc Lyte has remained true to hip hop so I have more respect for her than I have for the hip hop hookers that are out now. Standout Tracks: tracks like Lyte As A Rock , Mc Lyte Likes Swingin, Lyte Thee MC, and Paper Thin show Mc Lyte's skill and should be put in the classic category. 10% Dis is the obvious Antionette diss record where everybody got that verse /Beat biter/ dope style taker/ I tell you to your face/ you aint nothing but a faker/. I Cram To Understand U you is the story of a guy who Mc Lyte loves who turns out to be a player and a crack addict. Filler: NONE! Bottom Line: Mc Lyte's Lyte As A Rock is a classic hip hop that you can enjoy from beginning to end. Mc Lyte's rhymes were great, her production was memorable and this album showed that there were more great things to come from her. MC LYTE SALUTE!!!!

Lyte as a rock is a stunning introduction to one of hip hop's greatest female lyricists.Featuring hip hop classics, "I Cram To Understand You", "Paper Thin", and one the rawest battle raps " 10%" dis Lyte shows a versitility that few female rappers (at the time of this album and even less now)seldom seen on one album. Music wise production from the King of Chill, Her brothers the classic rap group Audio Two, and her dj the underrated K-Rock this album is a must have as a foundation to starting any hiphop collection worth having. Tame lyrics , except for a couple songs, you won't be assaulted with a barrage of needless profanity that we have too much of now a days. A must have album along with her next two that follow it.

I was flipping through the channels one day and I came across the VH1 Soul Channel and saw some weird video and I really wanted to know who it was. I liked how the rapping was and the whole coffe thing I found a little funny. At the end of the video I found out it was "MC Lyte" just about 10minutes ago I heard "Lyte as a rock" and I am still impressed. She definetely had some awesome skills. I love her voice its just so well suited for rap. And she hits alot of issues really well like drugs. If you want some awesome female rap even if its old with hot beats as well check out MC Lyte's "Lyte as a rock" and her other albums. All wonderfull works by a terrificlly talented female rap artist.
God Bless ~Amy
