The theme here is a combination of Love, Hurt and Tears and like most genres of music, lyrics with love, hurt and tears are always prominent, especially in Mexican ballads and a few faster songs like "Eres Casado". Instruments include the violins, harp, trumpets, The CD focuses on rancheras, and ballads. The music is from the best composers, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, "Quese Me Acaba La Vida" (Let My Life Come to An End); Juan Gabriel, "Te Quiso Olividar" (I Wanted to Forget You); Pedro Flores "Amor Perdido", (Lost Love); and more. The sound is wonderful! The selections are great, and the lead voices vary.

From Los Angeles, this immensely popular Grammy award winning mariachi band's most recognizable character, the full head of white-hair of Nati Cano, and they are known also for working with Linda Ronstadt on her Canciones de Mi Padre and Mas Canciones albums and tour.

I recommend Viva El Mariachi!, and included is a booklet that details the interesting history of the rise of Nati Cano, his strict standards and rise to fame.

My favorites here are Nochas Tenebros, (Gloomy Nights) and Quese me Acaba La Vida (Let My Life End); Llorar, Llorar, Llorar (Crying, Crying, Crying) "Mejor Me Voy" (Better I Leave); and "Quese Me Acaba La Vida" (Let Me Life Come To An End); and "Eres Casado" (You're Married). This is wonderful listening to and you don't need to understand the meaning of the lyrics, just listen without responding. Rizzo

3.0 out of 5 stars The music is not the allegre mariachi music I'm used to September 10, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The songs were executed perfectly, but that's not the problem. Song choice is the issue. When I think of mariachi music I think of joyous, energetic, and dramatic music e.g. La Negra, Guadalajara, La Cascabel, etc. The songs on this CD just don't pack that kind of energy.
