I'm a Berklee College of Music graduate and have used M-Audio gear for 6+ years. I ordered this bad boy, stoked beyond belief and ready to go. I had used the Axiom Pros in all the studios and labs are Berklee but it seems those have since been discontinued? Maybe that was only out when Avid owned M-Audio, that's my guess at least. Anyway, received it within 2 days (as always Amazon Prime, I love you, you did great.) and got it all set up running in Pro Tools 10. Downloaded all my drivers, did the usual setup, checked to see if there were any known bugs, etc. Well about 15 minutes into my session working in Kontakt, I notice a few of the keys just stop playing as if there was some short in the wiring where the key meets the signal or whatever it is. Happened on a few of the keys where they would just stop playing! Checked it in Kontakt, Xpand2, and a few others - all the same keys and just random cutting out. Sometimes they would sustain for a bit longer but in the end the signal would cut out. So as always when something goes wrong - to the forums! I spent about 2 days checking every forum I could for this problem and there was nothing about it anywhere. Tried it in a few different programs (Logic and GarageBand) and tried it on my macbook pro. Nope. Figured it was just faulty so I sent it in for a replacement.
Well, as excited as I was to get the replacement, I was let down. As soon as I got it setup I did my check to see if the keys would sustain... Well, found the same issue but on a different key this time. That was it. I tried contacting M-Audio support but you have to pay to place a call to support? Lame.
In the end I ended up sending it back and was rather sad about it. I've really loved M-Audio but even the feel of this keyboard felt cheaper and more plasticy than the nice, heavy duty metal old Axiom Pros. As an old fan of M-Audio it sucked but I ended up talking to a few friends and went with a Novation Impulse 61. Never used a Novation product before and decided to risk it off a few excellent recommendations from some professors and friends. It absolutely rocks, feels better, and gets the job done beyond anything I could imagine. Definitely recommend it. As hard as it is to say goodbye to M-Audio, until they get their stuff together - I'm done.
Hope this helps someone out there. Maybe I just had some bad luck with it but 2 was enough for me. As a professional audio engineer and composer, time is money!

M-audio should recall this keyboard. I am a professional music producer, and this is about the worst piece of gear I've ever bought. Take a look on m-audio's help forum, and you will find an entire community of furious customers and a company that is unmoved by their dissatisfaction.

First off, if you need a MIDI keyboard for live performance, DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. Period. It freezes randomly, and odds are it will freeze in the middle of your set, and you'll have to flip the power on and off. It's annoying when it happens in the studio and unacceptable on stage. It takes 10 seconds to finish the power cycle.

From what I can gather on M-audio's help forum, this is a very common problem. No one is sure what causes it. The firmware upgrade this year did not fix it.

If you report this problem to M-Audio, they will ask you to have it serviced or they might send you a new one. Several people on M-Audio's forum received brand new controllers which had the same problem.

Now that that's out of the way, i'll just do a brief pros and cons list

Pros:
1. Looks great
2. Lots of controls
3. Key feel is solid. I give the playability a B+ as long as you don't bother with the pads.
4. I'm told it communicates well with some DAWs... Logic, Ableton, Reason

Cons:
1. Many (if not all) models freeze, sometimes several times per session.
2. Compatibility with Pro Tools is poor.
3. I'm told compatibility with Mainstage is poor. This is moot, because live players should never take this onstage.
4. The drum pads are bad - very bad. They feel stiff, and you are reduced to pounding on them. They transmit your intended velocity almost at random (quiet, loud, quiet). Worst of all, they transmit data DELAYED. Not by a lot, but enough to ruin your performance and sense of rhythm. Most keyboard pads are bad. These are totally useless.
5. I just reached down to hit the pads a couple times, and sure enough, the keyboard is frozen. It is a vegetable.

Crazy as it would seem, even though this comes with Pro Tools, it doesn't hyperlink to it like it does with other well known DAWs.
Big pain. Once M-Audio updates their software, this keyboard should be amazing!

Don’t buy this controller without reading this first!

First of all, sure it is a very beautiful piece of gear. The keyboard action is very good and the connectors work fine. The ignite software is good, but if you have your own gear (DAW, softsynths, etc) you might not even use it.

Everything good finishes here. Now the bad things:

1) All axiom keyboards since its first generation have a bug called “blue screen of death”. Just google it (maudio axiom blue screen of death). In this “new” axiom air model the problem persists. But now it is starting to be called the “orange screen of death”. Just search the m-audio axiom air forums in their official website. The problem, in essence, it that the controller freezes for life. I had mine with this problem in the very first week. Took to technical support and they had to exchange the entire motherboard (not to mention the 2 month period waiting that). Again, it is a constant problem on all m-audio axiom units. And it is unbelievable that they continue to have this problem in this “new” axiom air model. Again, SEARCH M-AUDIO OFFICIAL SUPPORT FORUMS. This is enough not to buy this controller!
2) The rotary knobs are useless! They do not change midi value from 0 to 128 in a complete turn (360º) as normal from all infinite knob controller. Instead, they increase value by the speed you turn them, turning it complete useless. On the other hand, this problem is very easy to fix: a firmware update. Nonetheless, M-Audio seems not to care about this, as you can see in their OFFICIAL SUPPORT FORUM. Costumers have been begging for and update for over 10 months on this subject.
3) Hypercontrol DOES NOT WORK WHIT ANY VERSION OF PRO TOOLS. That’s unbelievable! The industry standard ! Just search the M-AUDIO hypercontrol driver in their website and read the description, as follows: “INTRODUCTION: Current releases of Pro Tools do not support HyperControl for Axiom AIR keyboards. Native HyperControl support is planned for a future Pro Tools release, but in the meantime, this driver lets you use your Axiom AIR keyboard's HyperControl Mode with Pro Tools.” That is, you have a very limited use on pro tools.
4) Contrary to the older axiom controllers, this one doesn’t come with enigma or any other configuring software. This means that all the programming of the controllers has to be done on the keyboard itself. It is so much harder to do that way instead of a onscreen computer software.

Well, that is all I can remember. I can’t stress the importance of taking a look at the m-audio forums and google the problems I have listed here. Conclusion: don’t buy this controller. M-Audio is known for it’s good products, but they have lost their touch on thus one. Look for a Novation, Roland or something else.

I love the look and feel of this keyboard and it plays great. It's lightweight and sleek. Looks and feels good. Even my wife commented that she loves the way it looks...

I plan to use it for live gigs with Mainstage 3, but buyers should definitely be aware that it DOES NOT SUPPORT LOGIC PRO X!!! Visit the M-Audio forums to see all the disgruntled people who bought it with the promise that it works with Logic... many of whom are returning it. If Logic was my primary use for this, I would definitely return it, as well. However, it's kind of my secondary use at the moment, so I'm going to keep it and hope M-Audio gets their act together soon. Logic Pro X has been out since late JULY 2013! And it's now 6 months later! Why so long getting it updated!!!! Not sure if other platforms are in the same boat or not. Do your research!

I'd give it 5 stars if not for that. So, buy it... but not if you need Logic support right away!

Don't buy this piece of junk unless you want to buy a new one when it stops working in a year!! I was excited about this keyboard and it worked well (I use it as a keyboard controller to record) for 1 year and 4 months. I've taken very good care of it, always keep a dust cover on it and it still looks immaculate. Out of the blue, one of the "trigger pads" (squares on the right) started lighting up and wouldn't stop, and repeatedly sent a D# signal to the computer, completely messing up what I was trying to record. I've tried resetting it (factory reset) multiple times, and everything else I could think of. It appears to be an electrical wiring issue.

NOTE (and I hope M-Audio sees this & the other scathing reviews, and takes note so that they step up their game in customer service AND product durability/quality): CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. They took forever to get back to me (and it took me contacting them 3 times, by e-mail and phone) and once they did, they were no help. In the first e-mail, they gave me a list of shops to take it into (it's already past warranty, even though it's only about 1 year old-- obviously they don't believe in the durability of their own products!!!). I wrote back and asked them again about the specific issue with the trigger pads. I asked if they had ever heard of anything like that happening with their keyboards, and if they had any suggestions/pointers/ideas of what might be wrong and what could be done to fix it. Once again, after a LONG wait, they responded with a short e-mail that told me to take my keyboard to a shop! And that was all-- no help AT ALL!!!

I am going with a different brand next time-- one with a better reputation for quality, durability and BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE. This piece of junk is not even something I can sell since it has this constant issue which renders it completely useless.

let me say this first. I AM A BEGINNER!!! that said I am in love with this machine, but I have to continue to play with it to give it a higher review. it is beautiful. it is easy to manage with the ignite system (I did not have a problem installing it) I made my first piece in a few hours. I am connected to m-audio av40 speakers that I have to run str8 to the lap top until I get the midi cable I need to attach to the m-audio m-track plus so that my guitar microphone and keyboard go to the same sound unit. I have found you tube to be quite useful for a learning curve. I can see everything on the keyboard with very little light as the orange glow illuminates enough for me. Did I mention the unit is quite pretty. The keys and pads are touch sensitive. The faders slide effortlessly, the knobs seem to work fine on the keyboard and with the ignite system pretty good. The display tell you what you are doing on the keyboard, ignite shows you everything you are doing. I have ot used protools express yet, maybe that is what will take this review to a five. you';; have to wait and see. but I am happy with this purchase. The price was good from what I saw out there and I do research. Amazon delivered the product in a timely fashion which was less than a week, four days including weekend (ordered on thurs day night, received by Tuesday morning. oh I am using this with my macbook pro laptop fyi running intego v8 virus barrier. 4/1/2015 no fool here. A week in and I have been making music non stop. the ignite system did cut out on me once so I treat it like the old pc system and save everything I am doing as I go along. I am very happy with this keyboard thus far and am enjoying the ignite software. i usually have it running for about 2 - 5 hours straight a per day.

I had my doubts before ordering, but i read the sellers reviews and i was satisfied with the good ratings and reviews.
When I received my Keyboard, I was in shock. It might as well been listed as BRAND NEW! with a MINOR 1/4" scuff (that you would have to search for)
I am so happy that I found Amazon Warehouse Deals and even happier that they have such great sellers and products listed.
