Next-Generation Bi-Amplified Studio Monitors

Trust the BX8 D2 monitors from M-Audio® to deliver professional, accurate sound in your studio. The BX8 D2 monitors ensure you hear exactly what's happening in your mixes, so you can be confident that your music will sound its best in any listening environment. Premium components, advanced cabinet design, and efficient bi-amplification come together to provide superior audio reproduction.

Exceptional Electronics

The custom crossover is paired with two Class A/B amplifiers-one for each driver. This bi-amped design ensures that each driver is sent only the frequencies that it can reproduce most efficiently, producing clean power and plenty of headroom. The woven Kevlar low-frequency driver offers rich and articulate bass. The natural silk dome high-frequency driver uses a built-in waveguide to add clarity.

Comprehensive Cabinetry

These impressive cabinets take up very little valuable space in your studio, yet are loaded with professional features, from radial-edge corners that reduce edge diffraction to magnetic shielding for safe use near video monitors. The bass porting is optimized to extend the low-end response, and there is an isolated chamber for the high-frequency driver. Pinhole LEDs aid in "sweet-spot" targeting.

Professional Connections

M-Audio BX8 D2 studio monitors are equipped with both XLR and TRS balanced/unbalanced 1/4" inputs, providing a solid connection to your studio mixer or other audio gear. The power switch, voltage selector, detachable power cord socket, and volume control are easily accessed via the rear panel. Acoustic isolation pads are included.

  • 8" woven Kevlar low-frequency driver for accurate bass
  • 1.25" natural silk dome tweeter with enhanced waveguide improves clarity
  • Efficient 130 Watt (70+60) distributed Class A/B amplification
  • XLR balanced and 1/4" balanced/unbalanced inputs are provided
  • Recessed LEDs assist in proper speaker placement for accurate monitoring

Save $200 on on a $600 set of speakers? Yes please!

I originally found these speakers on Sweetwater Sound's website @ $600, and also on M-Audio's website for the same price tag. When I saw them here for just under $400, I couldn't help but think, "Are they over priced if Amazon can sell them for $400 instead of $600?" The answer is no! The speakers are worth far more than $600... I needed a good pair of studio reference monitors to take my home studio to the next level, and I tell you what, these speakers are gold. They are built extremely well, and have PLENTY of power. You'll blow your ear drums before you EVER get to the max vol. on these dudes. So what am I trying to say? If you want an incredible set of studio monitors... or just some beefy computer/stereo speakers, you won't find a better deal than this. And believe me, I've spent hours searching!

I use it for center and main channels of a surround sound system. Perfect for movie background music and dialogue playback for sure. For mixing, I think they'd be lacking midrange presence and detail like most small nearfield monitors, but this, especially for the price, is probably the best among them in this price range and a bit beyond even if you were to use as a studio monitor. Beautiful, sweet and silky smooth treble. Not a harsh, ribbon tweeter type sound. Decent bass. Dont expect it to shake the room with bass as a sub would be needed but it is only an 8" woofer. Any more bass on it and it would not be a balanced speaker.

Went into Guitar Center for reference headphones went out with these. They are blowing them out unadvertised at 300 the pair. AVID no longer owns M-Audio and the new M-Audio is only selling single Bx8s. I compared them to Mackie, Yamaha, etc., the Bx8 D2s are compatible at a 5" price. Get them while the two packs last.

As far as Buzzing goes, if you set the onboard volume to MAX you will get HUMMING. I put it to the middle and get no noticeable buzz. At that level they are well suited for mixing, even at loud levels. If you want a chest-shaking, entertainment speaker, this may not be appropriate. I have a PA to do that, which BTW, these compliment very well, but can't and are not meant to compete with15" inch PA cabinets.

They are clean, reference monitors for mixing at the perfect price, I've been looking for years for a decent, near-field mixing monitor and these are awesome, they make mixing so much easier, I can't believe I waited so long!

Great speakers for my purpose, and greatest speakers bargain to me, what a pleasant surprise!
I seldom bother to write review, but I feel I need to offer my experience to pay respect to these great speakers.
I had been audiophile playing with high end audio since 1980,s, owned many great speakers,
MBL 101ii,Focal Utopia&Grande Utopia,Wilson WP7,Revel Salon,JBL,Thiel3.6,Magnepans, now still own a couple of pairs B&W 800 Diamond, and Focal Nova Utopia..
they had been driven by electronics from Conrad Johnson, Audio Research, Krell, Levinson, Goldmund, Classe, Macintosh..
Recently I assembled an Intel NUC based PC, moved this small but capable PC to my dining room, then tried to build a PC based stereo system, in a fairly large room.
First tried the B&W mm1 that I used on previous setup, ok sound except not enough bass,
Also tried Klipsh pro media 2.1 that I used on another setup, these are great buys, for less than 200 bucks including subwoofer, provide pretty good full range sound, good for PC system, I think this is good enough for most people.
But this time I try to see how good can a PC system sound, I use iTunes(also trying out jRivers), all music I reaped is .wav format(bit perfect), I compared most other format, like Apple lossless, flac, in my ref system I can hear the degradation, so I use .wav format only,
DAC wise I compared Audioquest dragonfly v1.2, HRT streamer iii, PS Audio Perfect Wave Dacii, Bryston BDA-2, also built in Dac of NAD d3202 amp, hooked up to my pc's USB port,
will explore some other dacs, like Meridian, Jolida,....
Using notebook or PC as music server seems to be the trend, so my effort is trying to find out the truth.

I've had these for a little more than a day but they were exactly what I was expecting from the given specs and woofer sizes.

This was an upgrade from Alesis M1 Active 520s (2008 version) that I paired with the sub from an Logitech Z-2300 (only turned on for gaming purposes, left off from minimal mixing, music listening, and videos).

I was stumped as whether or not to get these or Audioengine's A5+ (regular and bamboo were considered in addition to the A8 sub later on), Wharfdale Diamond 10.1s, save for Yamaha HS7s, possible Adam monitors, or even try the Overnight Sensations kits (both the MT and MTM models).

Having said that I know those are all varying products with some being 5" monitors, others being larger, some being passive requiring external amplification and prices varying. However the main purpose of looking into all of these was that I wanted the biggest sound that could go as low as possible (so as to not need a subwoofer later on) for as little as possible.

I have no space limitations so I took a chance on these M-Audio BX8 D2s being one of the more cheaper options on the list. After playing through at least 6 hours of my library, (320kbps mp3 and some FLAC) with the source being the RCA out on my Xonar STX sound card, I am overly satisfied with these monitors.

There is no longer a need for a subwoofer with these as the 8 inch woofers go plenty low enough on any song I choose (some very seldom exceptions that have that really deep sub-bass notes).

Something I tested out right away from the reviews I read was the buzzing a lot of people hear with this product. It is a NON-ISSUE, I put the gain on each monitor to max and received the noise. I put them down to half way and it was gone.
