Unfortunately, the software is a total joke, on installing pro tools the program won't even open.

While I have only had the product a few hours, it has worked great for me on Windows 7 x64 Professional. Recording and playback through the included ProTools SE works as advertised.

*I was a little leery of the plastic construction at first, but it is very sturdy for what it is.
*All of the potentiometers have a nice, silky smooth feel.
*The preamps have strong gain, and are pretty much noise free (except for the last 10% or so).

Overall, the product is top notch for the price.

I've been using the previous version of the MobilePre with both Garageband and Logic Express and have had great results. There are, obviously, higher-end mic preamps out there, but this product has actually exceeded my expectations based on the price I paid. It's not jam-packed with features, but if you're just making simple demos with your voice, guitar, keys, etc. you really don't need that much. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with it. As long as you are careful to get the input level right (as loud as possible, but without clipping the signal) you really can't go wrong.

I needed something to use with my older [2007] Mac Pro tower so I could input audio from other sources such as "shortwave radios" and Microphones. This unit works just fine.
Just plug it in to your Mac with the usb cable, no need to install the drivers and it works with my existing audio programs. The preamp knobs allow precise level adjustment. There are little lights for each channel to let you know when the levels are too high as well. I'm very happy!

Vocals with this usb audio interface from M-Audio is well worth the money. The vocals and sound are much clearer, and it is better than what I was using before. If you have a professional or home studio, I would suggest trying this interface for better clarity.

I wish I could do two different reviews for this item. This interface is great! The preamps are clean and have lots of gain, you get two separate outputs, phantom power and direct monitoring options. The plastic itself feels a little cheap, but I wasn't expecting an metal case for this price. This interface was exactly what I needed and it met my expectations!

The software however... Pro Tools has really been on a downfall since 7.4 and the garbage they give you with this interface will make you cringe. The installation took so long, I actually thought my computer froze. Finally, when I was able to launch pro tools, I could not get any MIDI sound from the program, even from the demo songs. I can see the notes, and even record just fine, but when I try to play it back I get no sound at all. I do get sound from regular audio though, which is weird, and there's no support from Avid for this software. I asked around and people told me it was probably because I was running Mountain Lion instead of Lion, which is silly. After installing Pro Tools over and over I just gave up and kept recording on garageband. Pro Tools SE is actually very limited as far as what you can do, you can't even add plug-ins or virtual instruments. What a piece of garbage.

Bottom line, get the interface but skip the software. In fact, just get it used from a reseller and download the drivers from Avid. That DVD is garbage and not worth a single penny.

The product offers a free version of Pro-Tool SE, unfortunately Pro-tools SE has many issues and doesn't run on windows 7. M-Audio doesn't provide support for the software, and Avid doesn't help neither. If you buy this product as audio interface with other software like Sonar, you are fine. But, don't think that the protools se will make your life happy. at least this version is not worthy of your time.

This thing does what I want it to. However, it is buggy as all get-out. There are two problems.

One problem is that I get error messages frequently and there is no fix for it. I just hit "ok" and keep on working if it lets me. So far, I have not had to stop or re-record anything.

The other, more problematic issue is that I'll record a track and it will work just fine, but when I go to play it back, I just get static. Sometimes I can simply restart the track from the beginning and it will work. Other times, I have to re-record it. This has happened a couple of times just today.

I've looked over the m-audio web site and had a music engineer friend work with me on it and we haven't found any fixes for either of the above problems. That being said, it works about 80% of the time. The hassle is worth being able to do some light mixing without spending more than a couple hundred bucks. If it were any more expensive, it would not be worth it.

The pacaking says this is made by Mobile Pre. When you try to register the product, Mobile Pre tells you they don't support it and that it is made by Avid. When you try to register the product with Avid, you cannot find it in the list of products they support. Neither Mobile Pre or Avid responds to email or phone calls about this problem.
