The sound quality is good, but better the further from the speakers, which is not their purpose as desktop computer speakers.

I purchased five sets of AV-20's after reading reviews and looking at the feature set. In short within 2 years three of the five pairs are broken, and the fourth is going out right now. They all failed the same way, the amp died. As I sit here typing all I hear is the hum of the amp. The speakers aren't even turned up that much and they throw out some serious background noise. Anything dynamic happens and they shut off. I will not be going down this path again.

These M-Audio AV20's are very good low level speakers for your PC. I found the bass response was nominal, so I purchased its big brother - the M-Audio Studiophile AV30's, and coupled both sets with a 1/8" stereo micro splitter out from my CPU to each set via supplied mini to RCA audio cables. All four units working together with control of volume per each set. This gives me get sound for my music files and/or playback of digital recorded music. Note: (For best sound quality - the AV30's should be mounted above desktop with wall-mounts or speaker stands off desktop.)
