5.0 out of 5 stars
One of the Many Amazing & Classic NES Games,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: M.C. Kids (Video Game)
M.C. Kids is one of those classic Nintendo games that you will never grow tired of. And don't be put off because this is something to do with Ronald McDonald! Put any clown fetishes behind you and play this game.
STORY: Ronald McDonald is in trouble. The Hamburglar has stolen his magic bag of tricks, and now it's up to Mick and Mack to save the day! Traveling throughout McDonald Land collecting cards, solving puzzles, and throwing blocks at baddies, Mick and Mack face quite the challenge. GAMEPLAY: Mick and Mack are very easily controlled, with the basic Marioish idea. Jump with A, pick up blocks with B, pressing the same to throw them, and crouch and press A for a higher jump. The levels allow you to go from beginning to end and back again, looking for all of the secrets scattered throughout. And trust me, there are plenty of secrets to be found, including the "zipper levels", an entire secret world, and of course, the ever-popular extra lives. Before you can move on to the next world, you have to find a certain amount of little cards that are hidden throughout the levels of the world. Don't think it's too easy, many of the cards are in places that will make you want to tear every hair out of your head. GRAPHICS: Being one of the later NES games (1991), M.C. Kids contains some great graphics, somewhat reminiscent of the great Super Mario Bros. 3. While the McDonald's characters are not depicted very well, they are at least recognizable. OVERALL: This is a great NES game to own and play again and again. The best part of this title probably is the idea of there being a secret world, and all of the other secrets scattered throughout. Concepts not very common in the old games. TECHNICAL: 2-Players, each taking alternate turns. 2 choices for characters: Mick and Mack, changeable throughout the game in one-player mode. 6 Worlds, plus a bonus Secret World No saving capability Credits rolled at end

I beat this game many years ago as a kid, and a while ago replayed it on a emulator. Both times, I really enjoyed this game. The graphics are fairly smooth, almost up to par with Super Mario Brothers 3. The gameplay itself is also smooth, and the actions (such as picking up objects or jumping) are also nice, there's nothing overly complicated such as secret moves or the like, so you can keep on trucking without having an arsenal of items to switch between (other than the objects you pick up, which ALL have the same hold/throw command and pretty much serve the same functions - knock out enemies)
You'd think that a game based off McDonald's and Ronald McDonald would be an awful game. but the truth is, it's honestly not. It's a surprisingly good game, and you can do one or two-player. The levels are fairly diverse and some are easy while others are challenging. You need a certain amount of cards to advance through each level and there's only one boss (at the very end of the game). You can just blaze through the game by picking up the minimum amount of cards, or take your time to explore and look for all the cards to unlock bonus levels. (too bad this game didn't come with a save feature) It's nice to see the old-school characters here such as Birdie and Grimace, and a couple of others which might surprise you. The story/premise of this game - Hamburglar stealing from Ronald McDonald - is a good one for this game, though I cannot wonder why Ronald and his buddies don't pursue the Hamburglar themselves! Oh well. Doing a full exploration takes a certain amount of time and something I didn't do until I played it the second time around. I enjoyed the Bonus Levels, and the zipper levels. There's plenty of opportunity to earn bonus lives, and some of the levels are tricky, but all can be managed fairly well. This is a solid old NES game and worthy of two thumbs up.
