In repainting bathroom, I removed the old, broken up caulking along the top of a fiberglass one-piece shower/tub unit, where it met the sheetrock. It left a large gap that seemed too big to just re-caulk. After reading a number of very helpful forums, i found mention of this product, and am thrilled I did. It was very easy to work with and caulk over. It helped form a perfect seal, and now you'd never know it's there. It arrived very fast. Great service. Product exactly as described. Very happy with results.

This is what you need to use when caulking giant gaps. Everyone tends to just fill the gaps with caulking, Not Correct; first use the backer rod in the gap and then caulk. Saves you a ton of caulking. It helps with caulking expanding and contracting.

This foam backer rod works great to fill larger gaps prior to applying cocking sealant. The foam is very flexible and can be used to fill even smaller cracks if you use a took to firmly press the backer in place (I used a plastic scraper to press the backer into a small crack). I used this backer to fill a large gap around a door frame in the old house we are renting because the framework has apparently shifted over time. I then filled the crack with a brown wood cocking sealant and the crack is no longer noticeable.

This seems to be a decent product. Definitely light weight and soft. I underestimated the size I would need. I bought this prior to doing enough research. Remember, BACKER ROD NEEDS TO FIT TIGHT. So, if there are any gaps larger than 1/2", you should get a larger size.

For my project, I actually ended up using a stronger 2" backer, and then cut it in half, and even in quarters, for most of the length. Choose your backer rod according to the largest part of the gap. Depending on your needs, this may be the width or the depth at the largest point. While it might work to double it up for a small area for a deep crevice, Do not try to double it up for an area that is too wide. You will be disappointed.

yes if you need only 20 feet, this is great.
The material is good quality with a good surface toughness so you can squish it into cracks fairly easily.
I put polyurethane caulk over it and the combination works fine.

Worked great! We had an installed vanity with a small gap, but a little too big to just caulk. This product worked perfectly! We also used this in the kitchen, since we were not able to use crown moulding in our remodel with our cabinets. The slight variation in the ceiling and walls made for a bit of a gap there as well, so this product saved us! You can't tell there was a gap at all! Just this backer and caulk, and everything is fixed!

I bought this to post my dog's ears up, I have a doberman with cropped ears.
This backer rod came in a coiled up package just like the picture and the product was fully intact and not damaged at all. It was surrounded by padding so you know the packager made sure it was in good condition.
I used this to hold my pup's ears up and it is the perfect shape and strength for the project! You need wrap the backer rod in duct tape, stick into the ear canal and tape it in place. My pup's ears are standing perfectly and I would definitely recommend this product to anone!

Pros:
-Package was supported with padding and not damaged
-Product was in perfect condition to cut any length you want
-Strong enough for a puppy's ears but very cousiony so it doesn't harm the ears

Cons:
-None noted other than it is coiled so you need to straighten out before posting

Bought a stone house 6 months ago. Have seen some cracks in the cement/mortar and around the window and door frames. Think this will be the stuff I need to help close those gaps.
