It is a nice and easy to use rain barrel. The only downside is that the holes on the grating is really big which allows small dirt particle and also mosquito to get into the water. It would have been better if the holes were like wire meshing - this would prevent mosquitos from getting in.

It is easy to install and at the moment I have a full barrel of water which I am using in the garden to water the vegetable garden.. being ecofriendly has its benefits as Houston City has just increased their water rates!!!

1. Mine (same model but not purchased from Amazon) was set up on a grass surface. It seemed stable until the first moderate rainfall. The barrel must've filled, then fell over and the force of the water ripped out the stitching on the zipper top. Perhaps weighing it down with some gravel inside and/or burying the legs would help.
2. If you want to connect two barrels, you'll need a hose with female fittings on both ends or a converter. Haven't found one yet
3.The strainer on the top is not fine enough to keep mosquitoes out, so you'll need to add a piece of screening... but the screen may prevent water from flowing into the barrel instead of onto the ground (see next comment)
4. The picture shows a rigid downspout set over the rain barrel, but since the top of the rain barrel itself is not rigid, it's hard to achieve an exact line-up -- set up barrel where some splashing over won't be an issue for your basement.

I bought this item a few weeks ago from another site. The plastic poles used as support bent out of shape due to the sun heating them up after the first day. now they will not bend back. Due to the poles bending, the item will not stand up any longer. the seal on the spigot is a bit of a joke. Do not buy this item. There are lots better items for a little more money that will stand up to some heat and rain. also it needs better screening in order to prevent mosquitoes. all in all a waste of money. I had to run metal stakes into the sleeves in order for this to stand up correctly and not tip over. I have 4 other solid resin barrels that i like and do a great job. I thought i would try this as it is 30 dollars cheaper. you get what you pay for. I will buy another solid one and throw this out in the next two weeks.

This is an excellent product that works well for those wishing to make use of water provided naturally and reduce their water bill. However, for those do-it-yourselfers out there, I recently came across an article with instructions to make your own rain barrel from a plastic garbage barrel that has all the features of this product minus the collapsibility. A good purchase. We leveled out a spot and put down some patio blocks for it, and it works like gangbusters! Fills up with every thunderstorm, and keeps my backyard herb garden and a bodacious (12 foot wide and ten foot tall) butterfly bush happy and green. No hose outlet in my backyard, so this has been a real backsaver for me, as I was hauling buckets. And we can put it away this winter and not worry about it freezing.

Couldn't get a hard plastic rain barrel in my car so this was the perfect solution.
It came quickly and was very simple to set up. I don't have gutters but I have a good flow of water from a valley on my roof. I was pleasantly surprised that the rain barrel was very sturdy with water coming off the roof. One good rain and it is full. I'm so happy I got one that is larger than the usual 55-60 gallons.

I fixed the debris catcher/mosquito problem by cutting a piece of landscape cloth and clipping it to the edges of the top, kinda pushing it down into the hole. Mosquitos can't get to the water and the water goes right in no problem.

Wish I'd ordered a second one. Tomorrow I need to go get a hose with quick connect so I can start watering plants with my rain water. Filled a watering can from the overflow valve - so easy. Great purchase. Highly recommend this product.

We have had this rain collector for about a year. It does the job, but unfortunately, the stress of a barrel full of water has caused rips along the leg posts. (Note the strain on the post visible in the manufacturer's photo.) Thus, it won't be long until the seams come apart and we'll have to toss it. I would recommend a more durable, solid barrel which are more resilient to the elements.
