5.0 out of 5 stars A great Kindle 2 case!
Just received this cover today (in purple, but same model), about 3 weeks after ordering from Amazon. Granted, it was ordered before the product was even complete so I was ok with the wait. It is very similar in look and feel to a Dooney and Bourke pocketbook if you are familiar with them. It has a great leather smell, just like a new purse. And the additional room on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed After Six Months
I purchased the M-Edge Prodigy Kindle 2 cover six months ago, and have enjoyed using it daily since then. I don't think I'm a particularly heavy user - I read the New York Times everyday and a book per week - so I was surprised when I noticed that the tab that keeps the cover closed has developed fatigue cracks. The cracks have appeared exactly at the spot where the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Kindle 2 case!, March 22, 2009
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
And the additional room on the binder side (meant for the e-Luminator light - sold separately) gives you a nice place to hold the cover with the Kindle attached.

I love the hinge system, one of the main reasons I bought it. Coming from the K1, the original case Amazon provided was functional but the Kindle always fell out. So when Amazon improved the hinge for the K2, I knew I would only buy a case that had that feature. One word of note, I initially did not "lock" the K2 in the new m-edge case correctly and it almost fell out when I shook it (over a sofa) to test the support. Luckily the two straps on the top right and bottom right held it from falling. Then I discovered I had not closed the hinge enough and made sure the top hinge was securely pushed upwards to "lock it". Installation instructions are not included with the case (weird) but are available from m-edge online. Amazon won't let me post the url, but if you go to the buymedge website you can view the installation intructions.

The look and feel of the case is very professional. I am very happy with this purchase and do not expect to be taking the Kindle out of it very often. The only little issue I have is that the tab is a bit too snug when it needs to be slid into the cover to close. A snap might have been a bit easier. Still not enough of a con to drop the rating. But the tab does tuck away easily so as not to interfere while reading, which is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Case Saved My Kindle! (But sacrificed itself in the process), July 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
Well, first let me say that this case is awesome! High quality construction and materials, great functionality, and very pleasing to the eye. The spine clips hold well and with the two corner bands, it locks in sturdier that the amazon cover. The real beauty of this cover is how much better it makes the Kindle feel in my hands. Fold the cover over and it works perfect for one-hand reading, adding just enough mass to make it feel like a book in my hands and provides a solid hand hold so I don't have to worry about dropping it.

OK, now to my "drop test". Yesterday, I was leaving my house with my Kindle in tow (as always) when my dog jerked his leash free from my hand while I was locking the door. He ran...I screamed...and my Kindle went flying! It hit HARD on my back porch - landing first on top of a "Toad Holding a Pitchfork" yard statue before clattering onto the wooden floor. I just KNEW it was trashed! So, after I managed to wrangle the dog back into his kennel, I retrieved my Kindle only to find it still in PERFECT condition! Not a scratch on the screen. Not a mark anywhere on it! I turned it on and (to my great relief) it still worked fine! Unfortunatly, my case was not so lucky. The beautiful, soft black leather was battered and scarred; scratched and scuffed. The frog's pitchfork had ravaged my case, but it had served its purpose: It had sacrificed itself to protect my Kindle. There is no doubt in my mind, as hard as it hit, that without this case, I would now be Kindle-less. All I can say is: Best $45.00 I ever spent! I've already ordered a replacement! Thanks, M-Edge! This product has my HIGHEST recommendation! Well worth the money!

(OK, I might have over-stated the damage to the case just a bit for dramatic effect. It is still totally usable, just a bit battered on the outside & with one major scratch down the back of the spine where the metal pitchfork penetrated thru the soft leather to expose the cloth underneath. If it hadn't landed on sharp, pointy medal, the case too would have been unscathed. Still, it would be fine to use, but I just HAD to get a new, unmarked one. Just my obcessive nature coming out, I guess.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very high quality, May 19, 2009
By
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
This product exudes quality and class. The leather is thick and supple. The stitching seems sturdy, and the suede-like lining is soft and protective. The jacket is substantial -- each cover is nearly as thick as the Kindle itself, so altogether you're carrying a portfolio that's 3 times as thick as the Kindle. The heft of the jacket provides a lot of protection, though. You can hurl it across the room without damaging the Kindle inside (still wouldn't recommend it, though).

It's so professional looking that it's easily mistaken for a planner or the like. Without close inspection, nobody needs to know you're carrying a Kindle around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cover, Not for me., November 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
I bought this when I bought my Kindle 2. It's a very sturdy, capable cover for the Kindle. The construction is good, the cover's top is very sturdy - good protection for the Kindle's screen - and the size is decent. It's not quite the cover for me, though. Below are my pros and cons, for those who are curious.

Pros:
-Construction is beautiful - well stitched, sturdy, and good materials.
-Very strong to protect the Kindle
-Closes fairly securely, so it won't pop open in the bag.
-Nice little slot for the M-Edge light, for reading in the dark.
-Pockets for business cards and other such.

Cons:
-Uses the Kindle Latch system - while I haven't had any problems with those hinges, others have, and they make me nervous.
-The flap for closure is on the side with the Kindle - it interferes with the buttons on that side.
-It's constructed strongly, but in the way of a book, cannot be folded backwards. So I can't put that annoying flap into its slot, and I have to have the whole open-book feeling.

In the end, because I like to lie down on the bed and read (which means tossing back and forth between sides), I chose to go with the Tuff Luv cover rather than this one. I simply found it worked better for me, although I do very much like this cover for the sake of its craftsmanship.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST cover for Kindle 2, August 16, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
I've had my Kindle2 for 3 weeks. The first cover was the M-edge case but it was just for storage so I returned it. I looked online and was going to order the Amazon cover but I wanted something that closed. I carry my Kindle in my purse and I knew that coins or keys would scratch the Kindle. After speaking to customer service, I ordered the M-Edge Prodigy. I LOVE it. The Kindle2 fits perfectly secure. The hinged attachments hold it in place and the straps make it fit like your favorite pair of shoes. My Kindle2 looks naked without it. I read in bed and have fallen asleep. It has slipped out of my hands and fallen on the floor but my Kindle2 is protected. I keep checking daily to see if I can order the reading lamp that fits in it. I can attach a small reading lamp that I already have and it also works.

The product looks great, smells great and looks very professional. It looks like a very expensive appointment book. I don't have to take the Kindle2 out for any reason. I can charge it, attach headphones, adjust the volume, all with out removing the Kindle2 from the cover. When I had the Kindle2 with no cover I was very scared of damaging it.

You can bend the cover back and attach the strap for one handed reading. I am left handed and this works for me. I have gone to the beach and pool to read. I slipped the Kindle2, cover and all, in a Ziploc bag and read my little heart out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to the Amazon cover, May 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
I bought this cover after I received the Amazon Kindle cover and found it lacking. The m-edge prodigy leather cover uses the same metal hinges that the Amazon cover uses, but it also has two little elastic straps that hold the outside edge of the Kindle in place. It feels much more secure and I never worry about carrying it around or throwing it in a bag. It adds a little weight to the Kindle, but I actually prefer the addition. The Kindle by itself feels a little too fragile in my opinion. The front flap folds behind the Kindle while reading and is just as easy to read with one hand. I actually think it's easier to hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Cover for Kindle, September 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
I purchased this cover along with the M-Edge light, and am very pleased with the quality and styling of the cover. It creates a nice sophisticated look for the Kindle, protecting it in my briefcase as I travel. I couldn't be happier. The exterior is a smooth black leather with just a touch of graining, with white contrasting stitching - a very classic look. The interior grey microfibre is quite soft and gently cradles the Kindle, with no chance of scratches from the cover. The Kindle is firmly held in place by the left hand hinges, as well as the elastic bands over the upper and lower right hand corners. All the controls, switches, and plug-in spots are accessible without removing the device.

The light is a nice touch. I frequently travel overseas, and on night flights when the lights go out, the light perfectly illuminates the Kindle screen without creating a large pool of light and annoying my seatmates. It neatly folds down beside the Kindle, without interferring with any of the controls. The cover is designed to close around the light, and this works perfectly.

With the M-Edge cover and light in place, the Kindle is easy to ready in many positions, the left hand flap can be folded behind if you like (I don't), and the little extra bulk of the cover makes a nice overall package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, Works great. Worth it., June 28, 2009

Recently purchased this leather cover for my Kindle and it looks and works great. Very classy. I think it makes the whole Kindle look sharper. The thin pockets on the inside for business cards or a few sheets of note paper are a nice touch. Holds the Kindle firmly in place. I travel and move a lot with my Kindle so I also opted for the clear silicone "body-glove" and thought it was great that it still fit in the jacket with the silicone skin on. It was just an added measure of protection for my Kindle. Highly recommended.

I ordered this case to protect my beloved Kindle2 since I travel so much. I have been very impressed with this case - it looks and feels very high quality, like the really expensive appointment books. It is very sleek and classy, and is still slim enough to easily pull out of my overstuffed computer bag. I can easily fold back the cover to read one-handed in the airport security line. It does make the Kindle heavier though, so I still prefer to take the Kindle out if I'm reading in my seat in the plane or in bed. The hinge attachment was a little stiff at first, but now I can pop the Kindle in and out super-quick. I am so glad I opted for the slight additional cost for this case versus the ones you can get for $25-30. It's been totally worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed After Six Months, January 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Black (Electronics)
The cracks have appeared exactly at the spot where the internal stiffening material ends, and will no doubt lead to the tab tearing off completely in time - defeating the purpose of this particular cover - keeping the cover closed during a fall. I don't know about you, but I do expect greater longevity from a product that costs $44.99.
