4.0 out of 5 stars Made it count
Royce is the best thing to come out of Detroit. There, I said it. As you all know, this is a mixtape not an album. Even though its a mixtape it's better than most people's albums nowadays. The only real flaw of this album is suspect production on certain tracks. Nickel, Simon Says(Street Games) and Jump all suffer from fishy beats. Lyrically these tracks are good. Buzzin,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Made it count, January 30, 2008

Royce is the best thing to come out of Detroit. There, I said it. As you all know, this is a mixtape not an album. Even though its a mixtape it's better than most people's albums nowadays. The only real flaw of this album is suspect production on certain tracks. Nickel, Simon Says(Street Games) and Jump all suffer from fishy beats. Lyrically these tracks are good. Buzzin, On The Road, and Dope are tight tracks and Gone In 30 Seconds and Switch get instant replay value. 52 Bars(which samples Mc Lyte's Paper Thin), Back In The Days and F*** A Hook is Royce staying true to his hip hop roots. Basic Rap is Royce's sharp diss to elementary rhyme scheme rappers. No Talent Rappers is cool even though the song is not about the title and Stand Up ends the mixtape on a deep note.
Bottom Line: Make It Count is an exceptional effort by Royce and his crew. Royce is still a raw lyricist and his crew showed promise on this mixtape. Standouts: BUZZIN, ON THE ROAD, GONE IN 30 SECONDS, SWITCH, 52 BARS, MY BROTHER'S KEEPER, BASIC RAP and NO TALENT RAPPERS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Royce Da 5'9 - M.I.C, November 14, 2005
This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
This is the second album that I picked up from Royce. This isn't really a solo album by him, his M.I.C group is also on a lot of the songs. Don't let that keep you from getting this though.

Lyrically, Royce and the M.I.C is real on this album. Its the same old Royce you know from any other songs/albums hes been on.

Production wise, this album is very good, some of the beats were decent/medicore, but most were bangers. The songs I listed in my top 5 have very dope beats.

If you like Royce, then this album is for you plain and simple. Nothing weak abou it!

Peace.

My Top 5 Songs
1.On The Road
2.Dope
3.Gone In 30 Seconds
4.Basic
5.No Talent Rappers

4.0 out of 5 stars Good "mixtape" from Royce - 4.5 stars, November 10, 2004

This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
Royce da 5'9" delivers a strong album for his fourth. Though labeled as a mixtape, it is more like a full length CD to me. It has 15 songs, 6 of which feature other rappers and is about 54 minutes long. There is no doubt that 5'9" is a good mc, Production is good, Asar does the majority (7 songs), Kidd, Nottz, and Royce all do 2, and Rob Reef Teelow and Young Marcus each do 1. No real weak spots, a few tracks that are ok but they can be listened to. It has 2 near classic, 5 ok songs, 2 I skip, and the rest are good. Recommended for Royce fans.

#1 - 9.5 (maybe the best one on here)
#2 - 9
#3 - 9 (f/ Juan)
#4 - 7
#5 - 7.5
#6 - 6 (gets on up and coming rappers - not a good beat)
#7 - 8.5 (f/ Tre Little, T. Dot)
#8 - 7 (f/ Cutty Mack, Young Rell, June)
#9 - 8.5 (52 bars)
#10 - 9.5 (old school beat)
#11 - 8.5 (another old school beat)
#12 - 8 (f/ Kid Vicious - short song)
#13 - 7.5
#14 - 8 (f/ Juan, Cutty Mack)
#15 - 7.5 (f/ Tre Little, Billy Nix, Cutty Mack)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Solid Royce Album even @ M.I.C. Mixtape status..., October 29, 2004

I'm just gonna' say I rated 5 stars for the fact that it's Royce and based on lyrics alone get's hime 3 stars every album because he can't come out flat. But he's got pretty good beats and production on here as well and that's why I it's a 4starer'. His lyrics are on point as ever on this one, you know the usual and if you don't then def. get a check up and buy all of his (...). I would love to see boy get signed to a major player in this game, that'd be crazy. But anyways back to the album. I like all the tracks like I said, "Nickel" the lyrics are nice but I just really don't like uptempo thing going on. And later on in the Cd there's some old' school sounding beats which I'm not a real big fan of but they still come out pretty good regardless. Other than that it's a real good effort once again. COP THE MIC MIXTAPE! Royce IS KING!

4.0 out of 5 stars Death is NOT Certain for his career, November 21, 2004
By
This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
After all of the doubts, Royce went independent and found glory back in the underground. Death IS Certain was an album this year that went to the grind days of 94. The sound of darkness, heavy strings and guitars with fire lyrics. A sound that talk about the other side of life that hip-hop does not speak on nowadays. To me that was a classic album. Now he is back with the M.I.C Mixtape, which is pretty good. He is trying to get his crew heard around the nation, which is never a bad thing. He tries a couple of new ideas on the album as well (Switch and 52 bars). Overall, it's a mixtape, I'll be looking for the next album hopefully next year.

Top 3 Songs: Switch, Jump, Nickel
Bottom 2 Songs: Buzzin, Gone in 30 Seconds
Sleeper: 52 Bars

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Royce..., April 17, 2005
This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
The beats and production on this are pretty good. Royce kills it, but the same can't be said about his M.I.C. crew. The tracks he goes solo on are solid and the CD as a whole is a good listen. The content can become bland after a while, but the lyrical skillz definately make Royce entertaining. "52 Bars" is a classic Royce track. Pretty solid drop.

4.0 out of 5 stars BANGIN', January 22, 2005
By
This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
As usual, Royce has dropped ANOTHER banger. I love this guy. I simply cannot believe Eminem dropped him from Shady Records. OH WELL......Em's problem. Royce is hotter than ANYONE Slim has released (that's including those untalent MTV whores in G-Unit). Ok, Obie Trice is nice too. Sorry Obie. Anyway....Royce is hot. I love the darkness of his lyrics. He's a very descriptive, well worded street reporter. No bull**** club music here. All true to life street stories. All the beats are bangin. I really recommend you purchase (or downlaod, whatever) ALL of Royce's albums. They're ALL good (and that's very unusual these days).

4.0 out of 5 stars Royce is back again, February 2, 2005
This review is from: M.I.C. (Make It Count) (Audio CD)
Yo my boi Royce DA 5'9" is back again with this tight album. yo the best tracks on this are "Dope" and "Buzzin" both songs are off the chain, like if the cd was based on these two songs it would get like 10 stars, but thats not the case. All the rest of the tracks are more like 4 stars but this cd is a solid by. definitley pick up this album. also my other reccomended songs on this are "On the Road" and "Simon Says". pick up this album its mad crazy and my boi Royce is just showin u why hip-hop is so popular, its b/c of the underground guys like Royce that aren't as popular but can flow better then the rest. So instead of pickin up the Game's cd or Cam'ron, pick up M.I.C the new joint by Royce DA 5'9"
