4.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
I was so impressed by the cover of this book that I preordered it. I gave it four stars instead of five because, although I found it inspirational, it is not really a "how to" book. It seems more like an artist talking about the way she came to making unique and impressive quilts.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures
I thought the pictures were amazing. It just wasn't quite what I expected. I found the book a little hard to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars my review of amazing machine art, February 7, 2009
This review is from: M. Joan Lintault: Connecting Quilts, Art & Textiles (Paperback)
I have known M.Joan Lintault's art quilts for many years and have seen a few at quilt shows and am constantly amazed at what she accomplishes with needle and thread. I am happy to see that her work has been put into a book for all to see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art Quilts to Admire!!, June 19, 2008

Ms. Lintault describes how she developed as a fiber artist. Her philosophy is very inspiring. Finding your own voice is important but not always easy while you are being assaulted by others' images and ideas. But per her philosphy, if you continue on your own path you will be rewarded.

Don't be confused by the title of this book. It's not a book of quilt patterns. It's an art book. Lintault has grasped inspiration from all over the world, infused it into her soul, and from this place makes quilts unlike anyone else's. She was one of the first generation of modern makers of Art Quilts. Her emphasis on negative space is absolutely unique. There's a bit of her process, on one particular quilt, but you'd be insane to try to duplicate any of her work.
In this book you not only get photos of some of her amazing quilts, but also some history of where she started, and how her quilts diverged from tradition, and some of the philosophy behind her work. It's a fascinating book. Often in books of art quilts I just ooh and ah over the quilts, but in this one the text is fascinating.
