Buy Something Else,

My kids (14/9/8) received this game for our Wii at Christmas. They had a very difficult time learning how to play so they did not want to play it. I sat down with them and we picked up the hang of the game. It was very difficult for me to play because of the way the game is set up. We played on a large flat screen TV and in dual mode, I could hardly tell where I was supposed to drive. Most racing games have a map feature that tracks where you are on the track and lets you anticipate the turns. This game not only does not have this, it puts messaging across the screen disrupting your view. In addition, some of the darker areas were like driving in a tunnel and I could hardly see where I was going.
The M&M characters were cute but this is too hard for younger kids to master and poorly designed to call it a racing game. Strongly recommend a do not buy.

Why is it I liked it?,

Apparently I'm definitely in the minority in my opinion of the game. Given the total investment it is a value. The controls are sensitive and that can be frustrating to newcomers. Once you get "feel" for the game it becomes more intuitive and much easier. My six-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son had difficulty at first, but are now unlocking tracks on their own. The first night I had it, I unlocked all of the tracks and collected enough "chocolate coins" to use any kart in the arsenal. To unlock tracks you simply win on that course in tournament play, then it becomes available for any kind of play. Oddly enough the "house" track, the second or third track you'll race, was (for me) harder than all of the tracks you'll unlock later in the game. Despite another reviewer's criticism, the kart does have reverse by pressing the B button. The B button or A button will apply the brakes. Some of the other criticisms were obviously because the reviewer did not read the enclosed instruction manual. This is not a game that you can just keep the throttle button down the whole time and finish the course. It takes a little finesse, but that is what makes the game challenging and fun. The graphics are not that bad. Of course I am from the Atari generation, so your mileage may vary. I'll agree that the sound effects and commentary do get old. And as others have said there are some dark tunnels on some of the tracks. But overall if you can get it for 15 bucks like I did, you'll get your money's worth. It's really unfair to compare this game to Mario Kart which cost three times as much.

Why do they hate us so much?,

That's the only thing I could think of. M&Ms hates us all and never wants us to play video games again.
The controls are terrible. The tracks are a mess. You get caught on every little thing along the edges of the tracks and guess what? No reverse! You want to fling the Wii remote at the screen in rage after just a few attempts at making a circuit. The graphics are uninspired and the audio is wretched. My kids refused to put it back in after one play session. Save your money! Save your sanity! Save yourselves! Do not buy this game!

I refuse to buy even the candy after playing this game,

This may the worst video game I have ever played in my 35 years on this planet. The graphics are merely adequate at best, and that's the high point of the game.
The sound effects are as nerve-racking as anything you will ever encounter this side of a Guantanamo interrogation room. The actual game play is laughable. The tracks are poorly designed, darkly lit and feature an infinite number of curbs, bumps and corners to stop your racer in his candy-coated tracks. While you try to disengage from these barriers, an unholy screech blares from the speakers. So, while the candy may not; I certainly wish this game *would* melt in my hands. At least then I would be rid of it.

It's difficult to control the cars, and the many obstacles in the path of the included "courses" become frustrating very quickly. My older son who enjoys other racing games tired of this one after a few plays.
Not reccommended.

Normally I'm too busy to write a review, but this game sucked so bad that I'm making an exception. The tracks are absolutely rediculous! You can't take more than 2 corners without running into a wall and stopping DEAD. Than you have to back up and try to continue forward until the next wall. Really, did anyone playtest this game?? Mario Kart is so much better and the graphics are twice as crisp.

Our son got this with some money he saved up. He was excited after playing Mario Kart but after playing the game for a few minutes it became clear that this game is just terrible. Its beyond difficult to control the cars and go around the very bad tracks. My son got frustrated very quickly and after playing it myself for a few minutes I can understand. Save your money, or kids money, and don't bother with this terrible game.

It was very difficult to control the kart. The design is dark and boring. There is no hint or instruction on how to advance to next level. There is no instruction on how to unlock tracks and karts. Time and money wasted totally. If you want to feel frustrated, play this game.

This game would have rivaled MarioKart if it would have been programmed correctly, instead it disappoints as badly as Desktop Racing.
Graphics are horrible even for a 'lesser' system, most of the time you can't find the track and/or your car. Car options are non-existant. No steering assist for younger children. This game is so bad, I can't even eat M&M's anymore!

My 8 year old son really wanted this game, so we came to Amazon to check out the reviews. Wow, they were not good. One person even went as far as saying something to the effect that if after reading these reviews you still purchase it, you must not love your child...that review devastated my son! He said he really wanted it, but if buying it for me meant I didn't love him, he didn't want it...watch what you write folks!
We were at K-Mart the other day, my son strayed into the video game area and found this game for $14.99 and asked if we could get it even though the reviews on Amazon weren't good. I agreed to and we have played it 3 nights in a row. He told me last night that this is his favorite game we have and we have several. I asked if he likes it better than Mario Kart and Spider Man Friend or Foe and he said "Yes!" As for myself, I'm 40 years old and do get frustrated with the game on a couple of the screens, which you have to win to open others. But for the most part, it was worth the money. I do suggest playing it with the wheel, it makes the game more fun and I think it makes the game easier to play too. So, go with what you think you might like. It's not a big investment and if you, or your child, think you will like it, give it a try...you can always sell it here or on ebay later. |
