About the Author

Barbara McGrath received her degree in early childhood education from Lasell College. She co-founded a nursery school in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and worked as a pre-school teacher for sixteen years.

Barbara was first published in her college periodical. She has written freelance articles for several publications, concentrating mostly on public interest issues. She is a volunteer for public education and teaches a nature/science course in the town of Weston, Massachusetts. She also visits schools across the country giving interactive presentations and encouraging children to write.

Barbara wanted to combine her interest in writing with her desire to make learning fun. This-- and her experience with children-- inspired her to write her first book, The"M&M's"® Brand Chocolate Candies Counting Book(Charlesbridge, 1994), which has over a million copies in print. She has also written several other books, including More "M&M's"® Brand Chocolate Candies Math(Charlesbridge, 1998), The Cheerios Counting Book(Scholastic, 1998), and The Baseball Counting Book(Charlesbridge, 1999).

Barbara's hobbies include surfcasting, canoeing, and scuba diving near Cape Cod. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and their two children.
