3.0 out of 5 stars MOJO - Update to some complaints December 29, 2013
Verified Purchase
**Edit 1 and 2 below.**

OK, first off, you might take this review with a grain of salt -- I am REALLY trying to like this device. I mean, I do, but it certainly didn't come as advertised by Mad Catz. Also, I'm somewhat of a journeyman when it comes to Android -- I've been using Android since the G1. I have never gotten too much into development, but I have a lot of Android devices and some are rooted, etc--I have less of an aversion to tinkering with Android stuff than your average person, though I'm not particularly skilled.

Hardware is 5/5. It COULD have had a better processor, the Galaxy S4 seems to perform much better CPU-wise (if that is the limiting factor in 3DMark physics tests, anyways). Of course, Samsung cheats when you run benchmarks, so you could probably squeeze more power out of the MOJO, but I was getting 40 FPS on S4 in Ice Storm Physics and 20-25 with MOJO. The S4 also seems to have slightly faster NAND.

The GPU murders that found in the S4. I have never seen 3DMark mobile return a value of "MAXED" for Ice Storm 720. Wow.

OK, there have been some problems noted in forums and here. Namely, nothing works in the Play Store, and the update breaks stuff. Real quick about the update, if you already HAVE the device and update to the 110 firmware, you lose your WIFI capability. You can get it back by restoring, which will keep the update but delete all your apps. That sucks. Luckily, I bought my MOJO on the 26th of December, and mine came with the 110 installed, so no big deal for me. So if you buy it after reading this review, you WILL NOT have to update. Yet.

And frankly, I don't see why THAT is such a big deal, since you can barely get anything INSTALLED on the device.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars

The MOJO is a system that will not disappoint you. It's Tegra 4 processor really displays its power right from the start. I bought this item for one reason, and that is to play high end games (Modern Combat 4, NOVA 3, etc...)

Controller: The controller is very similar to the Xbox controller. It is shiny and black and fits perfectly in your hand. Also in the center is a mad catz logo and when you turn on your system the outside ring flashes red and blue. At the bottom of the controller is a selector switch to toggle from mouse mode to pc mode or even blue tooth. The controller comes with a micro dongle that plugs into the USB port in the back of the system. The joy sticks have tiny grips on them and are a little bit con caved which fits your thumbs perfect. Rating :10

System: The MOJO system is nice and sleek and can fit anywhere. It has a bright blue light in the center so it doesn't go unnoticed. You don't hear any noise coming from the MOJO due to the fact that it doesn't have any moving parts. The shape of the MOJO is also really unique and it has wowed a couple friends who didn't know exactly what the MOJO was. Rating: 10

Accessibility: I thought this would play a factor for the MOJO and would be a pain but it really is not. All the ports are located in the back of the system. This is great because it keeps the cords hidden. The MOJO comes with a USB 2.0 and 3.0 port. A HDMI port, head phone jack, and lan jack (RJ11) and micro sd slot. Rating 10

Display: A nice HD display. The MOJO comes equipped with a full 1080P HDMI port. See games and movies in High Def!

Extras: Phone clip. The clip provided with the MOJO is really sturdy. You screw it on to the top with a thumb screw.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Potential December 22, 2013
Verified Purchase
I was interested in buying a MOJO after it was announced because I wanted something else to develop with besides the Ouya. I was not surprised about the price because there are many other android devices that tower over 250. Also what you have is a portable android PC if you set it up that way. I have it hooked up to my TV with my wireless mouse and Keyboard and can do most of the things I do on my PC. I also tested it with my Bosto Kingtee 14 drawing tablet (no drawing just scrolling and clicking only) and it worked well. Basically, the machine has multiple uses if the hardware is compatible.

* You can play game that work with the controller
* A powerful processor
* Bluetooth controller to hook up to your phone
* Controller feels Solid
* Multiple uses (music player, Netflix, internet surfing, YouTube, check email, etc.)
* Graphics look awesome on some big titles
* Can open the device to developers options (That means possible game development with the MOJO)
* Possible streaming from my Gaming PC (rumored but not confirmed)

The game pad is solid but I already experienced one defect. The start button barely works now and it no longer clicks (within 2 days). This is a real pain because I have to pack up the whole unit (the entire MOJO), send it back to amazon, wait for a new unit, and the set it up all over again. I sent a support ticket to MadCatz to see if they would send a new pad and take the defected one (I hope they say yes). I really don't want to sent the whole unit back just because of the game pad. I won't gig them for the game pad defect because it happens with all consoles. The PlayStation and XBOX One has their issues too. I just hope I get a new one that will not break after after a few clicks.
