Top Customer Reviews

Just got this in and setup up 2 weeks ago. Very pleased in all regards.

DRO: Wow - it is fantastic, with very nice and useful features. Even has a 'home' marker so if we lose electricity, we don't lose our setup. Way cool.

X Travel Motor: Very good, strong, and easy to use. Only complaint is the speed adjustment is a knob in the center that is easy to bump.

Spindle speed control: Surprisingly smooth and accurate. It works like it should and is very quiet. Brake is very crisp. Only time will tell if it will hold up, but it is not a big deal to fix.

Working surfaces and table: Smooth and tight. Handles have .006-.008 backlash (adjustable), and they move freely and smoothly troughout their entire range. Table and way quality is excellent - ways are sweet, and one shot lube is really nice.

Build quality: OK - it ain't as pretty as it could be. Castings are rough, and not smoothed out. Some of the no-essentials (like handle) have turning marks and rough spots. Scales on X and Y are easy to read, but head tilt and angle..... well you won't use them anyway for a quality job. Frankly, you won't use the dials either. Also, the bronze Shop Fox plate on the front got some smirks - quickmly made into smiles when they used it.

Installation was a breeze, and head trammed in nicely with .0005 flat on table at all ends. We were unable to cause the table to tilt our by leaning on it - again, really nice. Everything worked on startup, and the only mode was to cut a little out of the aluminum cover for the Z DRO. It obscured the old nut system.

Summary: All in all, a really decent mill at a reasonable price. Would I buy one again? Yes. Would I recommend to a friend? Well, that depends on how good a friend they are. The knee jerk for Bridgeport/Index is so strong that I would hesitate just to avoid the grief. On the other hand, so what?
