An excellent book.It not only informs you of the history and creation of the M14,but also how to glass bed it,sight it in,as well as stripping and assembly. There are also other helpful facts and figures to numerous to mention in this review.I would highly recommend this publication. When I purchased my M14 it had no instruction manual with it, so I bought this book which told me everything I needed to know.

While I realize that this book is not the Nth. college degree on M14'ism, I wasn't expecting that when I bought it. I knew without any doubt that there were other publications out there that could cover in depth specifics much better (and at greater expense) and that I could have slavishly scoured the internet for more and more detailed and specific information. However, I was not looking to become a great historian and armorer on the M14, all rolled into one. I am an owner and shooter that greatly admires this rifle and just wanted a nice, comfortable fireside book that gave me some basic knowledge (More than the owner's manual) all in one place that let me browse it's basic history and features. This book did that in spades and I will never have any regret in purchasing it. It is exactly what I wanted.

The M14 Type Rifle,
This review is from: The M14-Type Rifle, 3rd Revised and Expanded Edition (Paperback)
Overall a good book for information for those who need an introduction to this rifle. I was hoping for it to have part usage and numbers per a specific time period much like the other Joe Poyer books but it did not have much of that. Good refrence for commercial types also. I would say it is good reading for the price.

This 3rd edition has very little new or corrected information from previous editions. There is very little (if any) material in this book not covered in more detail and greater accuracy in other publications. I had hopes the 3rd edition would fix the shortcomings (light on details) of the previous, but I am disappointed. For the person with very little knowledge of the M14 and its history, this is a decent "M14 for Dummies" book; for the serious collector or military arms history buff... don't waste your time or cash.

M14 - a review,

This book is basically a collection of information and pictures already available on the internet. It does not provide any new information nor any specific information on accurizing, referring the reader to a qualified gunsmith. It doesn't even provide detailed instructions for removing the gas assembly or disassembling the trigger group. Nothing in depth, really.
I regret having paid for this book as all of this info is freely available on the internet. I think the M14 complete assembly guide is a better choice. The M14 Complete Assembly Guide |
