The M-26 Pershing finally gave the US Army what it had needed since 1942 - a tank that could take on the German Panther or Tiger. At 43 tons, it was on par with the Panther. Unfortunately for US tankers, the Pershing came to Europe just a few weeks before the end of the war. Over 2300 were built, serving with distinction in Korea. The basic design of the Pershing was updated throughout the years evolving into what became the M-60 Patton tank.

This book covers every aspect of the tank - track, suspension, hull, turret and my favorite - plenty of photos of the inside of the turret and drivers positions. There are a few line drawings and two pages of color drawings to show the markings/paint schemes on the tanks.

R.P. Hunnicutt wrote the definitive book on the Pershing, but this book by David Doyle has the color photos to really bring it to life. Hats go off to those who restored these tanks to pristine condition. This book is a very fitting tribute to those who fought and gave their all in these beasts. I am glad I added this to my library. Highly recommended for modelers, armor buffs and anyone interested in seeing firsthand how much today's tanks have in common with their predecessors.

Being a military modeler for going on 53 yrs, I found this book very helpful while building and marking an M26 Pershing. It was a very in-depth study of the Pershing which answered many questions which my kit instructions did not. I learned enough about the Pershing to build another in a few months. If I had the build to do over again, I would have had this book in hand first then begun the build. It was a very helpful book!

This book tells you much about the tank. It describes in detail (and pictures) every major part of the tank and most minor parts. If you want to know what a tank is like, this is your book.
