The price was great ... but the mp3 player wasnt what I would have expected from rca. The look is very nice and slim. the big problem is that the stinkin thing wont hold a charge. it only lasts for about 45 minutes fully charged. I would not recommend this item.

my daughter bought this and the sound was great, easy to use and she loved it. two weeks later the sound just quit. returned it to the factory for a new one, it quit too. would not buy another.

This is an older model Mp3 player that I bought only because it has line-in record capability. Hard to find that feature on players these days. The capacity is only 1 gig and it records in wave format. I convert recorded programs to Mp3 and put them on newer, higher capacity players, for listening while I work at my boring job.
NEW REVIEW: IT IS NOW 9-21-11 AND THE THING JUST STOPPED WORKING. CANT RE-INSTALL UPDATE OR FIRMWARE BECAUSE COMPUTER WILL NOT SEE IT. TRIED EVERYTHING, IT IS GONE, WORKED FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IF YOU HAVE ONE, DO NOT RELY ON IT.

I don't remember exactly when I got the Opal - I believe it was in August of 2008 (possibly Christmas - I know it was a gift) and I only used it steadily for about a year. I don't listen to a lot of music except when I'm driving, so after I got XM, I stopped fooling with the FM tuner I had bought - I much prefer music I can't predict.
This week I dug it out because I'm carless, expecting it to not hold a charge if it would even turn on. I got it about half charged and then walked the hour and a half trek to work - the battery was still at half. The menus were as zippy as ever, and the screen is easy to read, even in the sun. My bag has a built in pocket for a tiny mp3 player which is too small for an IPod - this little guy is so small it had no problem fitting in along side the extra earphone chord. The space on it is an issue. I have completely changed the playlist once and partially changed it once since I pulled it out earlier this week. Keep in mind, it has several hours worth of music on it, but this is NOT a device to store all of your music on. If you're a moody music listener, you will be changing things around a LOT in order to be happy. Having said that, it is EXTREMELY easy to change the files - simply drag and drop in file manager (I'm running XP). I vaguely remember having more trouble using the music manager it came with, but it turns out that program isn't entirely necessary. It comes with basic earbuds which I HATE - but that is standard for most mp3 players I believe - hardly something to hold against it. It charges when plugged in to the computer, which would be a hassle, but if you change your music frequently you should have no problem having it maintain a full charge. Another feature that it has that I really like is the hold feature - I've never used it before, but as I'm now using it while walking, it prevents it from being turned off or on accidentally.
I'm really glad I thought to pull it out this week. I forgot what a good product it actually is. Though I do wish it had more space, for something to be used while walking or in the car (when you shouldn't be messing with your mp3 player excessively ANYWAY) it is fantastic - and sturdy enough to use for a year, forget for a year, and then pick up again.

I bought this item and it wouldn't charge after the first couple times I used it. I let it sit for like two months and then it decided to charge. It has been working great for about a month and now my headphones are not working in it. (Yes, I did get different headphones and the player acts like the headphones have a loose cord). I liked the design but that was about it. I would definately not buy this again.

My daughter actually purchased this for her Bday I was shocked to see all the features & what it could do. The only thing I did not like was that it didnot come with better instructions on how to charge it or download music. We had to figure out everything ourselves. But after we had it all figured out I was still amazed by it. My daughter loves it & carries it everywhere
