I was looking to replace my Asus W3V that I purchased back in 2005. It has been an excellent laptop with minor issues regarding the Asus update utility. I was hoping for the same build quality and material quality as the W3V with this purchase. They did not miss much...
One thing to note...I've been researching this laptop for a few months and have not received confirmation on how many hard drive bays are in it. There are two for the record with the one located in the middle of the laptop being empty. I like the keyboard a lot. I tried out the Asus G51 at XestXuy and found that this one is of much higher quality. The keyboard of the M60J is not backlit like the G51 though. This is one feature that I wished it had. I've been messing with it for about 3 hours on my lap and it gets warm but not as hot as my W3V. I do not care for the plastic used on the bottom of the laptop. It has a texture to it and seems cheaper/of lesser quality than the material used on my W3V which is finished smooth. It may not be lesser quality but that's my first impression...It still seems sturdy. The two push buttons under the touch pad are certainly worse than those on the W3V. They are not a deal-breaker for me but they are a bit squooshy and hard to push...Maybe they will improve with use? I would also prefer the outer screen cover be made of brushed metal like the W3V instead of the fake brushed metal plastic...I have the same preference with the material used on the keyboard deck. I would also prefer the lid extend flush at the front instead of being offset short of the edge.

It is a pretty notebook whose functionality does not match its looks. It comes with a lot of useless junk which ASUS cannot or will not support. One example is the fingerprint scanner. It seemed like a nice toy to use. I have had the notebook for over two months and neither ASUS, nor UPEK has been able to provide the proper software or drivers. The one positive is the screen is very nice. The sound is what you would expect from notebook speakers. The PC is not as fast as you would expect from the specs listed. This is after I spent a day cleaning off the junk software it came with. The keyboard feels like it is going to fall apart in another six months. I definitely feel like I wasted over $1500 and will not be purchasing another ASUS product. Please do not make the same mistake I made!

Just Awsome.,

My search for a laptop consisted of these requirements: excellent processor, excellent RAM, excellent screen. This laptop was the best that I could bought with those requirements. AND IT WAS WORTH IT!
As for the hardware: Processor: The 4 cores rules. They are more than I expected. RAM: Its RAM is fantastic 4GB DDR3... EPIC Screen: It is THE most beautiful I ever saw, I could even stay in fornt of it during 8, 10, 12 hours without worring about my eyes. They didn't hurt at all. With my desktop LCD I can't do that. Video Card: Kicks ass. I agree it is not the top of the line, but I can run Dragon Age: Origins at maximum quality and does not even blink. The sort of CON I found here is that its escape fan is directed towards your left hand. If you use the video card enough you can feel your hand burning. It is really hot. Really. As for the overall heating, it is well designed. Harddrive: Acceptable 320GB. PRO: It came partitionated in 2, I was about to do it myself, but ASUS was ahead of me :). CON: It has only 5400rpm... why not 7200? Its cost was so high? I bought it knowing this, but I won't rate bad just for this. Bluray: BLUERAY... <3 I love it. Keyboard: Excellent... nice look, with good features. CON: I freaked out when its touch panel keyboard didn't respond to a software application. I touched them, they glow blue (cool :)) but nothing happened on screen. I checked the drivers: they were updated. I re-installed them: same. The answer was online: go to the msconfig and check ATKHotkey then go to the registry key and modify the paths to the same value, but with quotation marks "*path*". I reaaaaaally didn't expect that I must modify my registry from start with an preinstalled software. Just lame. Minus 1 star. CON: no backlit keyboard; the touch panel on keyboard has backlit, why not all? Speaker: Nice ones, not THE speakers, but nice. Other: Nice onboard bluetooth, wireless lan, mouse, messenger bag, etc. In summary: Excellent choice for entertainment and gaming (upto certain level). Be aware of software issues. PROS: Nice design. Fast. Bluray ROM. Screen. Screen, keyboard and bottom aren't hot. CONS: 5400rpm HDD. Touch panel keyboard keys issues. No backlit. Video Card fan exit is hell hot. |
