We got this for our studio to see if we can save some fingers from misses. It takes a bit of technique to actually hold...more than holding the boards alone. You have to slightly twist on the handles to the outside, otherwise, the holders just blow right off of the board when the board breaker attempts to break. Quite possibly related to the brand of boards you use as our boards are a different brand than the holders. We also found the foam pads for adjusting fit don't stay very long.

What would help in the design of these is if the handles canted to the outside just a tad, which would provide additional leverage that is similar to when they are held by hand. Possibly even deeper slots would help that. Or, some kind of latching/vise type of adjustment? You also have to remove the holders to reset the boards, then re-install. Not that big of a deal, but it is added time.

We have not tried wood boards.

We went back to holding the boards by hand. If you have the same brand boards as the holder, it might work better.

it does not fit every board. i bought Deluxe Re-breakable Board BLACK and it will not fit in the holder.

i bought this board Economy Padded Re-breakable Board BLK-HEAVY to use with the holder.
first time i used the holder the board came out of the holder and nailed me in the face.
i then gorilla glued the board in the holder and so far it works. the downside is that you can't change out boards.

still better then holding the board with your hands though.

Shorinji Kempo martial art is not in any way designed or studies holding, kicking or breaking boards. We received the board holders at our branch as a gift from an over zealous student who practiced breaking baords at another martial art. We use these extremely expensive holders (Once a year at best) to hold wooden or self-attaching plastic boards more as a novelty item to teach the children about force of motion and distance to an object.

I don't recommend these expensive handles however there really isn't anything else out there that can hold a wooden or plastic board. If you are inquisitive enough you maybe be able to make a pair of board holders with parts from local Home Depot.

We did try the holders and re-breakable plastic boards a few times and we didn't like the fact that the palstic board moves a lot from the holdes and has to be readjusted after each kick and punch. So to overcome that slippage the company gives you rubber pads the size of a quarter which are inserted into the holders to hold various thicknesses of boards. This is crude but effective... A simple lever designed on the side of the holder to hold the board tighter would have been easier. Maybe in a few more years.

As for us, the holders and palstic re-breakable boards are boxed and sitting for quite some time!! We do plan to take them out as they are entertaining for the kids.

Does not work! The product is expensive & does not hold boards. The seller won't accept the product for return once it's been opened, which is the only way to see if it works. Do NOT buy this product!
