This review is from: MADDYS SONG (Hardcover)
"Maddy's Song" tells the story of Maddy Dow, a brilliant pianist, her family, and their life in the small town of Freedom, Maine. Occasionally, Dickson's grasp exceeds her reach - the continually shifting perspectives jarred a bit, and some of her symbolism was a little obvious, She does do a superb job of depicting thought processes: of the complacent, of the abused, of the abuser and of the collaborator, and somehow making them all human and sympathetic (or nearly so). Her descriptions of music and the thought processes of performers, are extraordinary. Uneven, but very good.
