3.0 out of 5 stars Sequel to 'Parsley Sage, Rosemary, and Time' - spoiler alert, August 4, 2010
This review is from: The Magical Cupboard (Hardcover)
Not as engaging as the earlier book where the greedy Grouts accuse Goody Cakebread of witchcraft and the cupboard plays a part in setting her free. There had always been rumors about the cupboard's magic but others don't know that the cupboard only gives people what they need.

In 'The Magical Cupboard', Thanatopsis and Sufferana Grout (aka Grommets aka Gritts aka Grottles, now as Plumtrees) escape with the cupboard to the Plumtree Orphanage in which they have placed seven kids whose inheritances they have stolen. The kids are under the care of Mother Hollybush (former counterfeiter blackmailed by Grout/Plumtree) and her twin sons, one pleasant (Golly), the other not (Davvy). Davvy spies the Plumtrees' efforts to gain riches from the cupboard and attempts a little blackmail about their past so the Plumtrees decide to flee town with the oldest orphan, Felicity (Fissy) Parmenter, who has inherited land in New Hampshire. Fissy, aside from all of her other drudgery, has to guard the wagon at night so she climbs into the cupboard to sleep out of the cold and discovers that she is in a comfortable room on the cusp of two times; the doors open into her own time but a window opens two centuries into the future where she is able to view and hear Sibby and Bill (now a couple, formerly Baba and Wim from the earlier book) discuss looking for the Cakebread cupboard since Bill is the last of the Cakebreads.

Felicity and Golly Hollybush eventually marry but when the Plumtrees decide to move North, the cupboard only goes so far and then can't be budged. The young Hollybush couple decide to sell their farm and build a home in Vermont where the cupboard has settled. Felicity leaves a note in the cupboard and a diary explaining that Sibby and Bill will claim it "later than sooner".
