5.0 out of 5 stars Pure gold!
This product does not require very many words. It is the best flash light I have ever owned. I recommend every one buy one and keep it by their bed. If the lights go out you have the means to light up the night. If the lights go out while some one is breaking in. Then you have the means to light up the night and smack the crap out of some one. 1.0 out of 5 stars re: What ever happened to the Tough MAGLITE?
I must say I was very disappointed with this purchase. I had bought this to replace an old one that was stolen from my home(btw the old maglites were awesome!!)When I got the new MAGLITE flashlight, I noticed the LED light looks different than the Maglite LED 3D flashlight that I also have. Plus, when I checked for the extra bulb behind the tailcap, I got a regular bulb...

This light has a little weight to it and its metal so its doubles as a weapon of blunt force trauma and an outstanding light source.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mag-Lite Delivers Again, April 3, 2008
Best. Flashlight. Ever.

Mag-Lite products are great, American-made products with a craftsmanship that is to be proud of. Its strong, sturdy, and powerful.

Its a great supplement to home defense. The bright, pure white LED will easily blind someone momentarily if shined in the face. The long and heavy construction can double as a baton as well.

You can twist the head to focus the beam depending on what kind of beam you need for the situation.

Comes with a lifetime warranty.

SUPER BRIGHT!!!

Great price. They're selling the same flashlight in the 2D version for $49.99. This is a steal.

Great to have in the house, car, anywhere. Best flashlight, hands down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Puts a lot of light on the subject, November 21, 2008
By
Case is lightweight with no batteries. After you put the 4 "D" cells in, it is satisfactorally heavy. Could be used as a nightstick or to fend off wild animals.

The push on/off switch is rubber guarded and easy to use.

Whenever you use the outer lens ring to expand the beam, it leaves a dark spot in the center where there is no light. I downgraded it one star because of this.

I comes with an extra bulb that is stored in the flashlight body.

I would anticipate the LED bulb will last a very long time.

Be aware that department stores sell a similar model that has only a standard bulb. The LED model puts out more light with less battery drain. The light is bluish-white on the LED model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light, January 20, 2008
Im a railroad carman that works 3rd shift and this light is the best I have ever used. The light this thing generates make it seem as if its daylight and with longer battery and bulb life and Maglite durability (I use this thing as a hammer sometimes lol.) makes it the best flashlight on the market for a very reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4D monster Mag, March 22, 2008

It's substantial. It's solid. And it's bright as heck. The 4D LED Maglite isn't pocket sized, but tuck it under the seat of your car or get yourself the mounting brackets, and you've got a handy, superbright flashlight that is super-easy on batteries. The 3W LED capsule is exceptionally bright and focused (and the adjustable beam goes from flood to spot, although the LED doesn't seem to get as broad as the standard bulb Mags do). There's an incandescent bulb in the tailpiece-- I guess it's there in case there should be an unlikely failure of the LED module.

It's a little pricey and a lot long, but it's worth it on both counts. You never know when you're going to need beat a rabid raccoon or something.

4.0 out of 5 stars maglite 4D led, October 21, 2007
Great light source! Can light up to 100 m or so! Bit on the heavy side only slight difference between 2D and 4D! I will prefer 3D or 2D next time. If you want to buy a 4D, I will recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Only Gets Better With MagLite, February 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased my first MagLite flashlight well over 20 years ago. I was so impressed with the quality, I purchased a number of them in different sizes from keychain AAA to 4-D cell. Not surprisingly, I still have them all and most of them still look much the same as they did when purchased. Only one of them has ever been a problem - after a family member left it turned on and in a drawer for over a year. The batteries literally swelled and froze into the aluminum, pitting and eating into it to become a part of it. The rest of the flashlight still looked new. I had to take a large bit and drill the two C batteries out of that one. It took some time to clean it so new batteries would work it again, but it's been back in service now for ten years. I've even seen one of the 4-D cell models run over by numerous 18-wheel trucks with loads just over 80,000 lbs. A friend spotted that one, saw it still worked, and placed it in his truck for his own use. The anodized black finish was worn off, but that flashlight served him for over fifteen years until he passed away. I'm sure one of his family members is still using it.

My original 4-D flashlight quickly became a favorite of mine for shooting raccoons and possums out of the trees on my property during their nightly raids to my chicken coop. The only drawback was the bulb would blow if the flashlght was dropped, and the bulbs only lasted for about five hours use before needing replacement. That meant bulb replacement was about every year or two. Batteries lasted about six months to a year in my use before they needed replacing. Many years ago, I switched from the standard bulb to the Xenon and realized some increased battery life and a stronger beam - even slightly improved bulb life. So, when it was time again for a new bulb, I noticed the LED 3 Watt module offered the brightness of a Halogen bulb and DOUBLES battery life. I also had read LEDs were not subject to blow if the flashlite is dropped, and they have a lifespan far into the thousands of hours.

Since I wanted a second large flashlight and the improved LED performance. I purchased the MagLite 3 Watt LED module and this new MagLite ST4D016. For the differences I found in Halogen brightness, and beam performance compared to the MagLIte LED, read [Amazon review] "Xenon or LED? Here's Your Answer In How They Stack Up Against Each Other". After using this flashlight going on two months, I can safely now say the light remains stronger than a Xenon Halogen after hours of use - and as bright as if the batteries were still brand new. The MagLite ST4D016 4-D LED flashlight is definitely a "keeper" that will please anyone.

*Note* My new ST4D016 also contained the same bulb module I purchased for my older MagLite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't ever buy a flashlight that doesn't say Maglite on it. Ever., February 5, 2009

As always, Maglite has the best flashlight on the market. This review would be longer, but if you've ever bought any maglite before, you know what I'm talking about. The new LED bulbs are supposed to last longer and be brighter, and honestly it seems like it is, but the improvement in battery life is minimal. You really can tell the improved brightness, but it's different than standard flashlights, as the LED is white, not the traditional yellowish light that you get from most flashlights. Overall, great value, the 4 D Cell is nice and heavy, so if you want a heavy one, this is the way to go. It also operates just like any other maglite, you twist the head to focus the beam, so if you need a new, bright flashlight, this is the one for you. You can really tell the difference in brightness at a distance with this compared to the original maglite, this seems to be more powerful and the light beam is useful up to about 150 feet. If you've never owned a maglite, you're missing out, buy one of these or one like it so you can see what everyone else has been using for the last few decades.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as bright, May 2, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought both the LED and non-LED version of this light at the same time and have used them both for about a month. The LED version is not quite as bright as the non-LED version and casts an unusual bluish light, compared to the yellowish white light that most people associate with flashlights. That said, the battery life is terrific, and I am generally pleased, but I am unlikely to buy another LED Maglite until there have been improvements to the color of light produced by the bulb.

For such a small LED it has quite a powerful beam in the dark, it doubles as a defensive weapon with it's size and weight, many are in awe for me having a "police" flashlight, to me it's just a wonderful toy, I couldn't have chosen a better one!
