5.0 out of 5 stars This tool is necessary for a medical doctor.
In Japan this is the best item to examine pupil reflex for light and to see palate or tonsils.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK mini flashight, beam quality could be better
This flashlight is constructed to the same high standard as the other Maglites that I've used. However, the beam quality is not as good as my D and AA Maglites. It provides a good spot focus but the wide-angle beam is very non-uniform, which can make seeing where you are walking at night difficult. I've found the beam quality of the 2AA Maglite to be much superior for...

It provides a good spot focus but the wide-angle beam is very non-uniform, which can make seeing where you are walking at night difficult. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great for camping, November 27, 2001

I used this light for years when I led camping trips with inner city teens. It worked out perfectly when trying to negotiate a small tent. You can hold it in your mouth to direct it's light or use the candle feature. Either way it's small size and ruggedness was exactly what I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable!, January 23, 2000

I bought three of these. I keep them at various places around the house, so that whenever you need to look behind or under something you have light available.

They are tough, durable, bright and, because of their size, incredible convenient The Mag company definitely has another winning flashlight model here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable little light, March 18, 2003

This is the perfect size light to carry with you in your pocket, for whatever you need to do. In my case, I use it to examine patients in my work as a doctor. The beam is strong and it has not failed me yet. Highly recommended- with Mag, you can't go wrong.

If you're like me, you're always shining lights into people's eyes, ears, and mouth in clinic and on the wards. It's important when checking pupillary reactivity to have a strong, even, consistent light that you can trust!

This light fits the bill perfectly. It clips into your whitecoat breast pocket and stays there. It comes in several stylish colors. And the ability to manually focus the light allows you to eliminate annoying 'hot spots' and 'cold spots' in the beam, common with cheap penlights, that might lead the naive medical student to miscall an afferent pupillary defect on the difficult 'swinging-flashlight' test!

I've been caring for patients with my Mini MagLite for more than 3 years. I'd urge you to do the same!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Medical Use, Bad for Everything Else, January 5, 2009
This review is from: MAGLITE M3A016 AAA Mini Flashlight, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
Unless you're a nurse or a doctor I don't really recommend this light. It looks nice, and the pocket clip makes it perfect to clip to your coat, but the beam is extremely weak. I would only recommend this beam for pupil reactivity in the medical field.

Pros:

-Shockproof
-Batteries included (2AAA)
-Spare bulb in tailcap
-Lanyard hole
-Clip included
-Adjustable Beam
-Operates in candle mode

Cons:
-Goes through batteries fast
-Dim light, LEDs are better
-Poor reflector, causes dark spots characteristic of all Maglites
-Expensive at Amazon. Look for it elsewhere.
-Candle mode is not great during power outages, it is very dim

If you are looking for a everyday light to carry in your pocket or purse, I recommend a new microlight, it is brighter, more efficient, and does not eat through batteries as fast.

Great product, have been using mag lites for years and finally wore out my AAA light. But happy to pay the price to have more years of good service.

5.0 out of 5 stars How big is it?, June 13, 2000
This review is from: MAGLITE M3A016 AAA Mini Flashlight, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
These little flashlights rock. I must be the last person in the US to discover Mag Instrument flashlights, but I am a solid convert now.

When you are camping, especially backpacking, a little light like this is very handy. The batteries don't last long, but they don't weigh much either -- a key factor for backpackers. And they are VERY rugged. I live in a wooded suburb at the end of a country road (at least it used to be a country road) with frequent power problems. We must own 10 flashlights already, but are replacing them with more reliable units -- like these little Mag lights.

We bought the accessory kits with the lanyards (and other stuff that we find less useful). For camping, we also bought a non-Mag belt holster that can hold both the light and a knife or Leatherman.

Highly recommended.

I'm a MAGLITE repeat customer, so I guess I had already known I would like this AAA version. I bought one to try, but i will be buying more to keep at various places around the house so that whenever I need to look behind or under something I have a light handy. They're tough, durable, bright and, because of their size, incredible convenient. Mag has another winning flashlight model here. I especially like the candle function.
