This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I know my fair share about electronics and technology, especially TV's, and when I was doing research into which models were worth my hard-earned dollars, I have to admit that this one wasn't terribly high on my list. But to my surprise, it's turned out be a great value. The set has got really crisp picture, along with vivid colors, and no distortions whatsoever. The blacks aren't the best out there, but you can't expect the world from a $500 set I suppose. I've come across a lot of review for this exact set with sound issues, but thus far I haven't experienced any myself. It's not terribly loud, but for my purposes, it suites me just fine. I would recommend that if you were placing this TV in a fairly large room, get a sound system to accompany it, and it'll mare than make up for it's shortcomings. I also have the TV acting as my computer monitor, which works perfectly. No complicated set-up needed, and all you need is an extra 1/8'' headphone plug for sound. What not advertised as much is the 1080i playback, which was an added bonus for my PS3, and makes gaming all the more enjoyable. My only complaint actually doesn't concern the TV, but Target. I purchased what I thought was a new model, to only later find out it was old, used, and broken. I've had to jump through hoops to have it replaced because Target would not exchange it or allow me to return it. And I do have to admit, customer service for Magnavox does suck, but if you make fuss, they're sure to get your issues solved. I was told I'd get me new set in 10-15 days. It came in about a week. So a few words to the wise, open the box before you leave the store, in front of the electronics counter. This way there is no way they can claim you damaged the set. And then call the cops on you. And yes, Target called the cops on me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this item - or Magnavox televisions at all, for that matter, April 17, 2009
This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I purchased this television, rushed home to set it up and was very pleased...until the next day. The television would not come back on. Googled the model number and found literally hundreds of similar stories on the internet about Phillips/Magnavox televisions having this same problem.
The user's guide included with the set says to unplug the television for 30 minutes and then try again. Magnavox's website says to unplug the set for 60 seconds in order to reset the power supply. Other sources say unplug it for 4 hours and another said unplug and leave unplugged overnight. I've tried ALL of the recommendations and I still have a brand new, but completely dead television. I'll be taking it back and buying a different brand.
I talked to a friend in Retail and he tells me that one of the "big box" retailers dropped this product from their line because of all the returns they were getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seven Months and It's Dead, August 23, 2009
This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I definitely wanted a Sony or Samsung but my wife bought me this set at less than $500.00. It really looked great but after only seven months of viewing, I heard a loud POP! The set is fried and has to be replaced. We bought it at Target, a place I will never buy electronics again. (GPS UNIT Didn't work). Spend the extra money and get a better TV. This is pure crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, February 27, 2009

We've had this TV since last summer. We got a good deal at Sam's Club at the time, but needless to say they're cheaper now.
We've been very pleased. Bright, crisp picture, excellent HD. At anything less than 50" most experts say that getting a 1080p doesn't make since in terms of a better picture. Or the extra money spent, I would add. This does an excellent job. I can't imagine anyone would regret buying this. Magnavox, incidentally, is owned and made by Philips.

I bought this tv to prepare for the digital switch. It has been a great purchase. It was on sale at Target *very cheap so I had reservations, but I love it. Great picture on HD channels, easy to set up and program. I would truly recommend this tv to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Picture, Small Price., July 24, 2009
This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I have had my TV now for four Months and am very pleased with it's performance. I FINALLY was able to see first hand what "High Definition" looks like as I just bought my first Blu Ray DVD for my new Blu Ray Player. All I can say is "WOW!" The colors are amazing... the blacks are black and this TV has excellent detail and contrast. I am sure there are better HDTV's out there, but for the price I paid I am VERY pleased with the picture as well as the clarity of the slightly underpowered speakers. Watching Journey To The Center Of The Earth in 3-D was quite a treat and I will watch it over and over thanks to this quality TV. Thanks Magnavox!!

8/26/11 Still going strong. If anything, the picture is better!

2.0 out of 5 stars Frozen/Flashing Green light, September 28, 2010
By
This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I bought this set Black Friday, 2008 for my bedroom. It is connected to cable box and DVD player. Picture is brilliant and sound is acceptable. However, after a few months it froze and it would not turn off - no picture or sound just stuck with a flashing green light, the remote nor manual buttons worked. Unplugging it was the only way to turn it off. After unplugging and plugging back in still the flashing green light. I left it unplugged and tried an hour later and it worked. On another occasion this happened it had to stay unplugged for several hours before it reset itself. I don't use the TV very often but this happens intermittently. My latest incident this weekend when it would not turn on, I mentioned it to a friend and it was suggested that I remove plug from surge protector and plug TV directly into the outlet. So far this seems to work. I have 3 other sets, Samsung, Westinghouse and a Sony all plugged into surge protectors and haven't had that problem. I should have followed my first thought and returned it early on. I would not recommend this TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good TV with very sharp pictures, January 8, 2010
This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I bought this set because I needed a set which can deliver sharp and crystal clear pictures with vivid colors. This product out performs most sets in its price range and class. It has convenient connection panels both in the back and on the left side. It seems to me that the quality of this model is fairly consistant(the picture quality is the same as the ones I saw in stores). Comparing picture qualities with Sanyo and Zivio next to each other, this set is the winner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked Well For Awhile.., October 19, 2009

This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I bought this tv 5 months ago. I was slightly disappointed in the picture quality. It looks good, but not GREAT. Other than that, it was working fine until this week when it refused to stay on. I called Magnavox directly and they are going to send me a replacement. Kind of a pain.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was surprised at the picture quality, September 4, 2009

This review is from: MAGNAVOX 32" 720p LCD HDTV w/HDMI - 32MF338B (Electronics)
I purchased this TV as a referb unit and was expecting nothing more than a pretty marginal picture. When I connected it to my Cable box, I was really surprised at how good the picture looked. The sound is about average, but could be slightly louder for some stations. I end up having to turn the TV all the way to MAX volume and still the sound is low.

I have found two issues that cause this TV to loose stars. The first issue is that the TV will not do an HDMI re-sync with my cable box when I turn the TV on. Therefore, I have to unplug and re-plug the HDMI cable every time I turn the TV on. I know that this an issue with the TV and not the cable box as other TVs I have tried with this same cable box do not have this issue.

The second issue is pretty minor, but still is a bother. The only audio output jack is a digital coax out, not a pair of RCA jacks for left and right. Therefore, I cannot connect the TV to my amplifier/speakers - which is only a problem because of the low sound

Overall, I would definitely recommend the TV based on the picture, so I gave the TV 3 stars. I have had the TV for 3 weeks now. I will update this review after I have had the TV for a longer time.
