Introduction MAINGEAR's EPIC T1000 is a whole new approach to high performance cooling. The MAINGEAR T1000 is a precision Engineered Thermal Interface (ETI) that is comprised of innovative Phase Change Metal Alloy. It deploys into all the surface micro-asperities on your CPU lid and heat sink in a way that traditional paste simply cannot. The result is the lowest resistance heat path of any thermal interface product available on the market. What It Does The EPIC T1000 was designed for DIY enthusiasts and system builders alike. It allows you to reach maximum thermal conductivity with absolutely zero cure time found in thermal pastes. Because of this, you can quickly focus on reaching your maximum stable overclock without worrying about temperature fluctuations due to your TIM solution. And because the EPIC T1000 is an engineered solution, its performance is absolutely repeatable with no chance of over- or under-applying the right amount. How It Works The ETI is held in place between a stiffener; making it easy to apply to the lid of your CPU. Once on, you attach your heat sink solution (*solid contact only, no exposed heat pipes or circular bases) and start your system up. Then, following the included instructions, use a popular burn in program to "reflow" the EPIC T1000 by allowing the temperature to rise with the fan or pump disconnected. Once reflow has been achieved, you can plug your fan or pump back in, and you are ready to begin overclocking. The Results The results can be dramatic - up to several degrees cooler immediately compared to the common thermal paste sold in stores or pre-applied to aftermarket cooling solutions. And there's no cure time required. The end result is that you'll reach higher overclocks, enjoy lower temperatures, and in some cases lower fan speeds resulting in lower noise.

This product is a relabeled version of the "Indigo Xtreme" thermal interface that I reviewed in some detail earlier.

I gave this product a 2-star rating as a warning to those who may not be aware of what they're in for with the installation. If you are one of the rare fanatical experts willing to spend the appropriate effort, this is a 4~5 star product simply because it offers a few C lower than everything else.

Since my trial of this product, I've been using Timtronics Grey Ice 4200. Paste brand doesn't matter much, that's just the one I like; the effective difference between good paste TIMs is minute (1~2C). It's almost as effective as the T1000 (or not quite as effective depending on your taste in rhetoric :). Pastes only take about 30s to install and maybe another 300s to check and redo if your results aren't what you want.

Here's the original review. If you give this TIM a try, I hope you get a good reflow first try and shave a few C off your temps! ^^

All the reviews for the Indigo Xtreme TIM (thermal interface material) show how well it performs after you achieve a good installation. Unfortunately, those reviews don't mention how difficult it is to obtain a "good" installation.

The mechanical phase of the installation is incredibly simple and easy. Indigo went out of their way to make that part as easy as they possible could. The big hurdle isn't getting all the parts in place, it's the "reflow" process; ie. melting the IX across the surface of your CPU into a uniform thin sheet. Following the documentation precisely does NOT guarantee success, it just gives you the best CHANCE at success.

I had three major problems with the reflow process:

I purchased/ordered the Maingear Epic t1000 for 1155/1156 socket for my brother and i received Indigo Extreme for 1155/1156 socket. He said the de-greaser is really good. It cleaned his CPU back to a shiny silver like when he first installed it. The cooling is about the same as IC Diamond 7 at idle but on load it is about 3-4C cooler, whatever that means. If you read this Platinum Micro Inc. the next time i order an item from you please send the correct item please or at least contact me with a product change, thanks.

I had checked with the manufacturer and confirmed that in fact this is Indigo Xtreme with a different name.
My set up is the following-
i5 2500k at 4.9 ghz 1.45 v-core(22 hour stable)
Noctura DH-14 with dual Gentle typhoons 1450 RPM
Haf 912 case with great airflow.
I have previously used AS5, NH-H1, and IC diamond and as far as cooling goes, the T1000/Indigo Xtreme really is the best on the market.
Here are the temps that I am getting with prime 95 running for 1 hour.(This data took over a period of 6 months to collect)
All Thermal paste were applied the recommended way by the manufacturer.
Ambient temperature- Constant 18c
(note temperature is average of all cores)
AS5(cured to recommended 200 hours)- 67c
NH-H1(no cure time required) -67c
IC Diamond(two hour cure time)-64c
T1000/Indigo Xtreme(no cure time)-61c
For installation, T1000/Indigo Xtreme is bit unique in that you have to heat up your processor to melt the stuff across your CPU, as opposed to thermal paste where you don't have to do so. Some people might be a little wary that you have to keep your processor at such high temps for this TIM but Since I have an intel chip, it will automatically reduce the core clock to prevent any damage to my CPU. My macbook Pro hand an intel core duo 2 at 2.4 ghz that ran almost above 80c all the time. the thing still works after 3 years so I can acclaim the quality of the chips intel makes. As long you follow the directions its really not that hard. Just note that it will take longer to reflow then what the instructions say. It took me about 10 minutes to get reflow so be patient and resilient.
