The list author says: "You're welcome to check out PART TWO as well.
One odd note: People often think I'm a big country music fan. Definitely not. I strongly dislike most of it, even the most popular stars. But, for both male and female singers, a handful of country singers indeed are my very FAVORITE performers of all. In fact 10 out the top 15 I list here are country music icons. And a couple of the other 5 have a little country flavor sometimes too. But because I'm SO enthusiastic about those 10, they dominate my music collection and thus people assume I'm a country fan. Not so. I force myself to watch the Country Music Awards shows to stay current, but can't stand most of it. But yet look at my list! (Also, I think the reason I like those 10 is that most have a distinctive immediately identifiable voice and style. When you hear a few notes, there's no doubt who is singing. Most other country singers sound pretty much the same in voice, tone and style.) I think the same criteria applies to my 6 favorite female 'countryish' performers as well. See my FEMALE VOCALISTS FOR THE TIME CAPSULE."
"Disc 1 almost perfect collection of his best of the 70's. If only they had used WHEN I LOVED HER instead of Billy Dee. Disk 2 so-so, with a few later gems(THE LAST TIME, WHY ME LORD?, which are also on other albums. For the best AFTER the 70's, see my BEST OF KRISTOFFERSON list."
"Add the CDs 'Stardust' , 'Me and the Drummer' (2002, aka Tales Out of Luck)and 'Picture in a Frame' duets with Kimmie Rhodes(2003)and recent duets CD 'For All The Girls'. These sets scratch the surface of his A material. For more, check out my BEST OF WILLIE NELSON."
"Add Vol 2. +4 songs--Noah, There Used to Be a Ballpark, Anytime and This Time I'm Gonna Make It. Sinatra is RARE male performer who had SEPARATE great careers acting/singing. Others? Kristofferson, Crosby, Roy Rogers and maybe Jamie Foxx. Elvis doesn't count. HIS movies were only successful because of his music. For the women, check my 'Female Vocalists' list."
"Add imported 'Best of' and 'Borrowed Tales'.(Recall when Don protested New Coke and spearheaded movement to bring back Classic Coke?) Talk about social activism! Also see my BEST OF DON WILLIAMS, including first two cuts from comeback CD: And So It Goes."
"ROGER WHITTAKER:The best of several collections. But RIVER LADY is conspicuously absent. Two other albums must be added: FOLK SONGS OF OUR TIME and ALL-TIME HEART-TOUCHING FAVORITES. See my Listmania: BEST OF ROGER WHITTAKER"
"Superb Christian album MP3 has my fave Christian recording: HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW. His other fine gospel album: PEACE IN THE VALLEY. Recent good CD of Antonios Carlos Jobim songs: ONCE I LOVED. Mildly enjoy his pop hits."
"Add my fave: HEAVENLY BLUE & from new CD 'Above The Ground': INVISIBLE and ANY MINOR MIRACLE. Finest voice ever devoted to rock'n'roll. Burton in concerts also does good imitations of other performers. See my BEST OF BURTON CUMMINGS."
"Add..'Eyes That See in the Dark' album produced by Barry Gibb(you can tell))+2 songs 'Old Man in our Town' and 'Stranger in My Place', both written by Kenny. See my BEST OF KENNY ROGERS.Recent Christian CD LOVE OF GOD is his best in the last two decades."
"Missing is the very touching song COMING HOME from the CD 'The Distance'. Seger makes a good comeback with his latest: FACE THE PROMISE. See my BEST OF BOB SEGER and MUSICAL COMEBACKS For The Time Capsule."
"Not a great 'vocalist' per se, but career was a triumph of style, taste and persona. His two best other albums are 'A Man Called Hoss' and 'Sweet Mother Texas'. Lots of other good songs to collect though. See my BEST OF WAYLON JENNINGS."
"Biggest collection, both solo and with Garfunkel. For clips you can check the ON MY WAY CD or MP3. The Graceland album was an exciting infusion of African sound and rhythms. See my BEST OF PAUL SIMON (And Art Garfunkel)."
"Need several more songs, though. Every Now and Then, Poor Man's Gold, When I Dream. I'll Paint You a Song, etc.Hasn't had a hit in 30 years but has good humor about it. Recent CD pics him holding sign 'Will Write Songs For Food'(Meanwhile making big bucks for Elvis re-release A Little Less Conversation, which he wrote)."
"Add his superb rendition of SHENANDOAH(MP3). Fabulous voice but career cut short by tragic violence. Child Of Clay album is pretty good too. Like B.J. Thomas, he had a string of cute pop hits, but also memorable recordings on his albums."
"Plus PRECIOUS TIME, TILL I GAIN CONTROL AGAIN, DOMINO, WHEN THE LEAVES FALL DOWN, STEALING MY HEART AWAY, STRANDED, LITTLE VILLAGE, IRISH HEARTBEAT(Chieftains), MOONDANCE, BEAUTY OF DAYS, ROLLING HILLS, LET THE HEALING BEGIN, INDIAN SUMMER,ONCE IN A BLUE MOON, DAYS LIKE THIS, THAT'S LIFE, CRY FOR HOME"
"Add: Healing Hands, Club At The End Of The Street, Nikita, Sad Songs, Little Jeannie, Made In England, England's Rose and the Road To Eldorado soundtrack. Beyond those, for some reason, Elton's voice doesn't hold my attention to lyrics. Dunno why."
"Pretty comprehensive collection. Missing 3 of my faves though: FOLLOW THAT DREAM, LOVE LETTERS, WOODEN HEART and also THAT'S WHEN YOUR HEARTACHES BEGIN. Good vocalist for rock'n'roll and I'm a fan, but not when he does that wobbly warble on some ballads and gospel."
"My Rifle,My Pony & Me, String Along, Poor Little Fool,Hello Marylou, Fools Rush In,Stay Young, Stood Up, It's Late, Never Be Anyone Else,For You, Travelin'Man, Garden Party,Dream Lover,She Belongs To Me,You Are My Sunshine,I'm Walkin'. and best versions ever of Dream Lover and Love Minus Zero/No Limit + mediocre ditties."
"Beautiful bizarre otherworldly voice. My fave: his dynOmite version of Leonard Cohen's BIRD ON A WIRE. with Christian lyrics added. Also Kristofferson's FOR THE GOOD TIMES, La Vie Dansante, Angola Bound, I Bid You Goodnight, Crying In The Chapel. From this CD: O Holy Night, Louisiana Christmas Day, I'll Be Home For Christmas. See my BEST OF AARON NEVILLE."
"His best recordings were duets with then girlfriend Nicolette Larsen. Here: Sail Away,Going Back,Already One (plus solo Four Strong Winds)and Sail Away on Rust Never Sleeps LP. Add singles: Harvest Moon, Long May You Run, Only Love Can Break Your Heart."
"Vanishing Breed, Running Blood, Wrong Man, Long Lind Of Love, From The Word Go plus, from other albums: Land of Enchantment, Children Of The Wildwood, Swans In The Sun, Never Give Up, Lost River, Wildfire and his Cowboy Songs series."
"NOT !!! You need Wintery Feeling, Humor Me, My Songbird, Mississippi You're On My Mind, You Remember Me, It's A Good Thing, Make A Baby King, It Takes Young Girl and the album 'Love Filling Station'from 2009. New posthumous CD just released too (2014). See my BEST OF JESSE WINCHESTER."
"Former hubby in folk duo IAN AND SYLVIA. Since friendly divorce has mostly done cowboy songs. But also superb OVER THE RAINBOW here. Many good solos as part of the duo too. BARNEY (heartbreaker about a horse) only on vinyl. Cowboy songs are pretty much his niche though."
"A few missing: Open up Your Heart,Qua La Linta, I Know Who, Rolled Away, When 2 Worlds Collide, Sorry Willie, Lock Stock and Teardrops. WROTE 2 other fine songs: Old Friends and slipped incongruously into his musical Big River, the song Leaving's Not The Only Way(best done by Willie Nelson/Glen Campbell.)"
"Best known for writing this song and MAMAS,DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS. His own best recordings are FIRST TASTE OF TEXAS, BEST BREAK THIS OLD HEART EVER HAD, AFTER ALL, EVER NEVER LOVING YOU. All here plus Christian songs added since becoming a believer."
