Fantastic synth horror film score!, May 14, 2009

Malevolence is a very satisfying horror film score. The variation of different themes is quite interesting, as the film moves from action oriented at the beginning to classic horror toward the end, and all blend together perfectly. Stevan Mena effectively blends the styles of different horror film score composers such as John Carpenter and Harry Manfredini to add body to this score. I cannot help but feel this compositional comparison is intentional given that there is such a strong reference in Malevolence to horror films from that era and it is especially noteworthy to add the comparison between Mena and Carpenter given both wrote, directed, and scored independent horror films. I have purchased a great many horror scores over the years and this is one that holds up against the best synth horror scores. The packaging additionally is extremely nice - all vivid color and great CD art! I give this film score a BIG thumbs up!
