Book Description

Manchester House was built upon secrets and blood. Even the land upon which it was built was considered…bad.

ITEM: Native Americans for untold centuries believed that if a bird flew over the property it would die.

ITEM: On the forced “Trail of Tears” march to Oklahoma, a rival tribe invaded a campsite of a sworn enemy, resting upon the property, decapitated the women and cooked their heads. No reason was ever given.

ITEM: While traveling to Vicksburg, Ulysses S. Grant had an experience that changed his life forever – he never would say what.

ITEM: On his travels, Grant lost an entire squad of soldiers, two field surgeons, a team of horses and mules, and one Gatlin gun. No explanation given. Grant, himself, refused to investigate.

No one in the town wanted to admit that the ancient house even existed. All homes facing the ruin had their windows boarded shut. All roads to the thing were blocked, overgrown, or forbidden.

Manchester House was a beacon of evil at the center of a small Kansas Town with a dark and mysterious past that would not go away. All tried to forget it even existed -- until the police had to bring the bodies out.

When a group of professional "ghost hunters" explore a local haunted house, they descend into absolute darkness and terror, learning the incredible truth behind the legend of MANCHESTER HOUSE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much more than a haunted house January 9, 2011
By VickiT
Format:Kindle Edition
"We are all victims of our fright and uncertainties."- Manchester House

Built just after the Civil War, Manchester House is more than haunted; it's possessed. When the house claims yet another victim, the police have no choice but to call in parapsychology professor Jonathon Holzer and his SOURCE team...

Horror is not my usual reading, but I'm fast coming to realize it's the writing - or rather the storytelling - that matters, not the genre. The evil in Manchester House is palpable, the suspense menacing. I read each page with growing dread, knowing something bad awaited but not being able to stop. Kirch uses different viewpoints and time-shifts to great effect, controlling pace and tension like a master puppeteer.

With the exception of a few too graphic (for my taste - I'm squeamish) scenes that I skipped over, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Relentless! June 13, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Manchester House is much more than a haunted house story. It's a bit like Amityville Horror on steroids. No one seems to be able to live there for long. People disappear, people die, and, in the process, people go crazy.

The local police have no answers, which prompts Lt. Wells to put a call in to an acquaintance who investigates the paranormal. Once that happens, this story moves at a relentless pace. We are drawn into a world of angry spirits that are controlled by a demon like no other.

This book will keep you up late turning pages. Then it will keep you up late listening for things that go bump in the night! Donald Allen Kirch has a tremendous talent for conjuring up a world of horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Manchester House April 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Located in the small town of Atchison, Kansas is the Manchester House. The house was built shortly after the Civil War. The land that the house was built on is said to be pure evil. People from this small town stayed away from this house because it is said to be haunted. The local authorities give professor Holzer and his Source team a chance to investigate the strange happens at this house. The Source team consisted of Theresa, a physic, Sinclair, a cameraman and Miranda, archeologist. There was one more member that the Source team was waiting for. His name was Ingrid Knight. Knight was to play a big part in trying to defeat the evil in this house. The Source team went to the Manchester House without him. Knight would catch up with the team later. The road ahead for the Source team would be one heck of a ride. The Source team was warned by a shape of a young girl to leave this house immediately or they would die. The Source team did not heed the words of the ghosts. This is a story about good versus evil. If you are looking for a good haunted house story with plenty of action, then this is the book for you. The characters in this story are well developed and the flow of the story keeps you wanting more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries of Manchester House July 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book! I adore a good horror story, especially a ghost or haunted house story. Having run out of such books to read, I picked this one up and hoped for the best. I was very pleasantly surprised. A house said to be on cursed ground, unexplained disappearances, a police force beside itself, and a town that refuses to even acknowledge the property. The only thing missing from that scenario is a team of ghost hunters, oh wait, there they are! Settle down for a truly suspenseful read. Highly recommended.

I loved this book and I couldn't put it down! Donald Allen Kirch has written a story that takes us to new heights in the spook spectrum. This is not an average ghost story that entails us with the commonality of what we expect as far as how exorcisms proceed. This story takes on an entirely different twist into the realm of the supernatural with a cast of characters that you will come to know and love. The story telling of the incidents the author describes will have you in an attentive stance as you plunge through this book. There is never a dull moment once you enter the doors of Manchester House and meet its creepy inhabitants! Warning: You may want to sleep with the lights on after reading this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! July 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Finished this book last night but felt like I needed time to digest what I had read before I could write this review. The beginning sucked me in, the middle was slow in some parts and fast in others and the ending...well I have I have to say is Wow! The ending had me on the edge of my seat and I felt like I couldn't read fast enough to find out what was going to happen. Very few grammatical errors (which is a big plus for me, especially in an e-book) but I will say the one thing I didn't like about this book was the use of the dash symbol (-), alot! I kept having to re-read paragraphs because I felt like I was missing words or something was suppose to be hyphenated, where a comma would of made the book flow so much better. Through the book, I kept thinking Man, this should be a movie because it is just the kind of movies I love! I'm not sure why but I fell in love with the character of Mr. Night, he is so wise and knowledgeable, and I love the references to where some of his items in his conjure kit came from. I felt like there was some skipping around in the middle and some characters didn't get the much "attention". Overall, the story was a frighteningly good read! I may have to re-read it come Halloween time! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting a haunting story and am anxious to read more from this author!!!
