"The writing style, the complicated story... Every last word grips you. This may be just another book in a popular genre; but there is no doubt that this series is in a league of it's own. Absolutely brilliant." ~ Addicted2fiction

This was not just about reading a book, a story - this was experiencing it - being drawn into a whole new world. For me, not long ago J.A. Huss was just another author's name. But after Tragic that changed. She became the flash in the dark - an author that seemed to have created a story that came out of nowhere; became something so much more than what you expected. I think I fell a little bit in love after reading Tragic. I know that I fell completely after reading Manic. The writing style, the complicated story - that doesn't appear to be complicated at first - the characters, even those that are just standing off in the distance - all of it. Every last word grips you. This may be just another book in a popular genre; but there is no doubt that this series is in a league of it's own. Absolutely brilliant.

This is one of those stories that you find it hard to avoid giving something away in a review. So this is kept simple. I can say for certain that I am not sure if I trust a single character after finishing this story. I want to - but after reading this I am not sure I can. Everything I expected was turned inside out and manipulated. And even with the dread that fell over me during this read, this series has been one of my favorites of the year.

Rook was defiant. She signed the contract with one goal in mind.
To be the one in control.
But this contract strips her of her control - strips away everything.
But this mistake might just be what gives Rook a chance to fix everything that is wrong.

Rook is still running from her past.

I friggin love this series. I've read them all to date & just noticed I never left a review for this one.
Rook & Ronin is basically wrapped up in 3 books. There's two spin off books coming in early 2014. Rook is a heroine you will fall in love with and not want to throat punch which is important, and more rare than one would think.

What I loved about this series as a whole is that each book was better than the last & there's twists & turns in books 2 and 3 that I didn't expect. There's more to Rook that I didn't expect.

And then... there's Ford. He's introduced in Manic & it's like whatever, there's a secondary guy. Then in book 3 he sneaks up on you & you fall in love with him. Yowza. Like I said, twists & turns you don't see coming. Some of the twists aren't for Rook, they're for you the reader. Cause you're like I'm supposed to be in love with Ronin. But now I have feelings for Ford. And Spencer. I have feelings for him too. Luckily for us Ford & Spencer are the ones getting the spin off's in 2014 so we can spend more time with them.

This is a NA contemporary romance but it is very different from most I've read. It is definitely no cookie cutter romance.

I have to say this is why I hate sequels. While I liked the first book I was very close to not buying Manic because I felt that #1 left a lot to be desired as far as character and plot development went. Manic very much made up for that and I am so glad I kept reading. I think maybe it should have been one book.

This story is not a story where the couple meets, falls desperately in love and know they are each other's for eternity. This is a story of a young woman who knows that she is very young and inexperienced and needs time to figure herself out. The love story is there but it is not only about that. It is about Rook coming to terms with herself and her life while hoping that she can maintain her love/relationship with Ronin. He is older and at a very different place in life so even though the reader can cheer for the couple and even assume that they will end up together they may not and that might even be ok. She is very aware of this fact and that creates some of the romantic tension and it is very realistic.

I was intrigued with Ford and could even see a romantic chemistry there. And at the end there was foreshadowing of a possible complication involving Rook's first love. I like that I, as the reader, don't know how it will all work out in the sequel. I can't wait to find out.

The author has a crisp, modern and witty writing style but at the same time it is charming and whimsical and I have to say the end of this installment was so touching that I shed a few tears. Definitely an author to watch.

For years Rook Walsh has lived a crappy life. Fleeting from one foster home to another and eventually becoming homeless and desperate she accepts an offer she can't afford to refuse and goes home with Jon. Just when she thought that her life could not get any worst she finds herself trapped in a controlling and abusive relationship. It takes it almost being beaten to death for her to decide that she needs to escape or face her demise. After she leaves the city of Chicago she promises herself that she would never give up full control of her life to anyone ever again.

By fate she ends up in Denver and on the stairwell of Antoine Chaput's studio. Homeless, broke and alone she is given the opportunity of a lifetime - to model. Immediately she agrees to this venture and the promises she made to herself are slowly deteriorating. She starts trusting others, developing newer relationships and even relinquishing the little control she has.

Ronin can not resist her. He is caught up in her spell. He wants to know where she's from, what makes her tick and why she seems so damaged. She tries to resist him but being in constant physical contact for the job makes it all that more difficult. Not knowing all that has been going on in her past, Ronin pushes her eventually forcing her to make impulsive decisions. Because of this she is now stuck in a contract that will test her relationship. On top of all that stress her past finally catches up with her as well. Now that she is stronger will she run again or face the trials head on?

I have another trilogy to add to my favorites. I absolutely, positively, irrevocably love this series! It's nothing like I've ever read before.
