About the Author

Machaelle Small Wright is a nature researcher, teacher, essence practitioner and developer, writer and co-founder of Perelandra, a nature research center in the Virginia countryside. What's so exciting about MAP is that it's easy to learn and it's free. There are no workshops to take, you can do it yourself, that means you don't have to find a practitioner who works with energy, and that means you don't have to pay a practitioner for weekly visits. Everything is right here in this book, and rarely have I found a book of this type that is so well written and clearly organized. The first few chapters give you an explanation of the process and the steps for a MAP session, so you can read about 50 pages and get started right away. After that, she goes into a deeper explanation of what happens in a session, then the rest of the book is devoted to specialized topics that you can read as you need them, such as surrogate sessions, calibration, MAP for animals, flower essences, and kinesiology, plus a few others.
Basically, MAP is a medical program where you work with energy beings (my term, not hers) and nature intelligences. In your first session you'll assemble a team that will be your specific team for as long as you use MAP. Machaelle describes it like this: "MAP is a physical program that works on your well-being from the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual perspective.....it works on strains, pressures, pain, and conflict felt on all these levels simultaneously." It takes a commitment to keep doing MAP, but it's not hard to learn. She suggests twice a week sessions at first, then once a week (each session takes under an hour) and she suggests you stick with it for five months before evaluating whether it's working for you. I could not believe my good fortune when I first learned about MAP.

I came to MAP over four years ago and have used the program regularly ever since. There is nothing mysterious or complicated about it. You need not use the Perelandra essences (as another reviewer said), that is stated clearly in the book. You need not even believe in it. I know how skeptical one can be about such things that don't fit neatly into our belief system. I had a very rare and agressive cancer, few people survive it. With the assistance of MAP and my willingness to address my issues, I am today completely cancer-free and healthy. MAP is a holistic program that recognizes the effects of imbalance on health and maintains the balance of all of our bodies: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The program is useful for such common maladies as headaches, colds, allergies. Nothing is too large or small to bring to MAP. It is empowering as well, and puts your health in your hands. Other than the cost of the book.. it's free... no appointments to make... no driving... You can set your own schedule and do this in the privacy of your home. MAP will work in conjunction with any other medical modality, so there's no need to discard the treatments you may already be involved in (ie: doctors, acupuncture, reiki, homeopathy). I advise anyone with health issues, major or minor or anyone interested in maintaining their health to investigate MAP.

The concept of MAP is simple. It seems embarrassing that I had to read a book to know about it! I have used it since 1995 and the results have been quite amazing. I started using it for physical health and gradually moved into using it for mental/spiritual health and relationships. I eventually began to use these principles to improve the quality of my work, and to move into more congenial and fulfilling work. For anyone with concerns after reading other reviews, MAP is 100% FREE to use, and MSW states that quite clearly. It does not require the purchase of any expensive items, merely a request. The use of flower essences is optional. The recommendation to use them is merely for educational purposes and for the simple fact that using them helps one to feel grounded -- active -- in the process. Sessions are conducted when one is alone, which has saved me alot of $$ on medical bills, and has made the times I do see a doctor far more productive.

I've found MAP to be an incredible, unique, effective method of healing, and a gift to the world. It requires a good degree of open-mindedness to get started, and one of the greatest drawbacks of using MAP is that -- though you may be excited and amazed by what the program does for you -- it may be difficult to talk about with your friends without them thinking you're crazy. I remain skeptical and agnostic about *how* this works. I don't know whether there really is such an entity as the Overlighting Deva of Healing (though I'm fascinated with such questions). I don't know if Machaelle Small Wright's explanation of what happens during the program is, in fact, what's really happening. All I know is that this program has worked and benefited me in a very real, powerful, concrete way. For me that's all that matters.

I myself am at a loss for how to recommend this to people, because had I discovered this book on my own, I would have thought it was too weird to ever work. However, when my Reiki teacher told me how it had worked for her, I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. When I first started working with MAP, I thought to myself in amazement, "This is so much more powerful than Reiki ever was for me!" I'm so lucky to have a support system like this.

If I want to share the wonder that is MAP with others -- and I'll only tell those who I think can handle it -- I usually tell them: 1.) I don't know HOW it works; I just know that it does. 2.) Read all the five star reviews on Amazon.com. The one reviewer who gave it fewer than five stars -- W. Lambdin, who gave it three -- probably already had his (her?) mind made up, and didn't approach it with an open mind.
