5.0 out of 5 stars Steve "H" Hogarth & Mr. Rothery really shine:), October 30, 2004
This review is from: MARILLION - FROM STOKE ROW TOIPANEMA: YEAR IN THE LIFE (DVD)
This excellent 2dvd set is a must-have for any true Marillion and great music fan. One word of advice, though: listen to Disc 2 first---disc 1 is cool but, as is readily admitted on the jacket sleave and during the program, alot of the footage isn't A+ audio/ visual material. Still, the genius of Steve Rothery---perhaps the most tasteful guitarist on the planet---comes shining though, as does the increible, emotional vocal delivery of H, not to mention the fantastic contributions of the rest of the band. Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

This video is outstanding! I bought the VHS version in 91 and was blown away! The entire video focuses on the arrival of Steve Hogarth and the rest of Marillion after the departure of long time front man 'Fish'. The live footage is incredible, and the sound quality is excellent. For those of you who have the VHS version, you will be pleased to know that the entire concert from DeMontfort Hall, Leicester, England has been added as the second DVD in this package. Go to Marillion.com for the complete set list. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still The Best Marillion Video Release To Date, June 7, 2002
By
This review is from: From Stoke Row to [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It's been about 12 years since the release of "From Stoke Row To Ipanema", and it still stands as the best Marillion video to date. Kicking off (after a brief introduction chronicling the departure of vocalist Fish) with the video for the single "Hooks In You", and winding up with 45 minutes of concert footage from the band's "Seasons End" tour, this is a thoroughly entertaining and often humorous look into the evolution of a new Marillion with frontman Steve Hogarth. From bandmates' recollections of Hogarth's first audition, to two in-studio performances of works in progress, it provides an intimate insight into the band's creative universe. Peppered throughout with various concert footage and videos, this is a must for any Marillion fan. One can only hope for a DVD release of this one sometime soon....

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but I have some minor complaints, August 15, 2003
This review is from: MARILLION - FROM STOKE ROW TOIPANEMA: YEAR IN THE LIFE (DVD)
Well this is by far the best Marillion DVD concert out there. It captures everything that is great about each of the band members. In particular Steve Rothery (guitar). He is very inspirational on this DVD. Definately worth every penny for admirers of Steve Rothery's tasteful guitar playing. This is a 2-DVD set. The first disc is nothing in the world than a documentary about Steve Hogarth's arrival and how Marillion bounced back after Fish's departure. It is a very interesting documentary. It also has a VERY cool clip of S. Hogarth playing with his midi-gloves. And Marillion do an improvisation with S. Hogarth demonstrating the midi-gloves capabilities....very awesome background lead guitar playing from Steve Rothery too. This first disc also has some poorly filmed concert footage on it. Even they flash a notice that says "Please excuse this poor footage. We..." and so on. But I feel that they shouldn't even have bothered with this footage because it is a bad representation of Marillion and just the rest of the disc's film quality. Now for the 2nd disc. This disc is just awesome! I love the whole concert! They do some songs from the album "Season's End" and some other Marillion standards. There is also a director's cut film that is very good, basically it just is the "best" performances from the concert that I mentioned. Overall, this is a Marillion DVD worth owning for it is the best period, im my opinion, of Marillion.
