It made a happy day when good old Amazon recomendations brought up the newest Tanya Allan. I purchased the book without even looking at the product description and the price and only then realised Tanya had raised the price on her Ebooks to 4.99 from 3.99.You naughty girl you. I read it in a few hours and as usual my main gripe is that it was too short and I would have liked it to last longer, but if she wrote longer books that means we would have to wait longer between books so I guess that's a wash. The second issue was one of historical acuracy. Unlike her earlier historical fictions on the Second world War this one was set in the Napoleonic Era and I could tell the Author was not quite as certain in this setting. Little things like talking about the "Eastern 14 Colonies" in America and how in 1813 "Boney would be back" even though he had not be vanqueshed to Elbe yet at that point. Nothing too terrible but it distracted from the reading, along with the clear idea that while the author was describing an american character, indeed an Iconic one of a USMC Marine NCO I could never forget the author was British. Still, I wont ask for my money back, and I look forward to the next one. |
