Not your typical romance novel,

Before you read this, keep in mind that this is somewhat different than your typical Regency/Historical romance novel. Neri has written a story that seems to be based more on the older Gothic style novels (pre-Jane Austen, not the currrent vampire-gothic novels). The plot is simply overdramatic (somewhat like a historical soap opera) and the characters fill stereotypical roles. There's even a ghost.
However, it's easy to be drawn into the story, and feel the bleakness of the moors and the desperation of both Ryder and Lucy. No, their characters aren't deep, but if you want deep, read a different genre. The story is basically an adventure/mystery/ghost story with a splash of romance tossed in for flavor. All together, this is a horse of a different color. Give it a try. Neri has done an admirable job recreating a lost story form, and creating a fun tale besides.
