specialised Matlab abilities, August 1, 2008
This review is from: MATLAB® for Control Engineers (Paperback)
Ogata directs this book at control/system engineers. Assuming no prior exposure to Matlab. So it starts off with the basic commands, just like a general Matlab guide. But it quickly moves onto fairly advanced maths topics and equations. Like representing linear systems as matrices within Matlab, and solving the resultant equations. Or state space methods for solving systems of linear differential equations, subject to different initial conditions.
Then, there is the finding of a Nyquist plot, which often arises in engineering contexts. Or the drawing of a root-locus plot. None of the graphics is what you'd call fancy. Just enough basic rendering of 3d plots so that you can see curves. But for professional engineers, this should be adequate.
What is impressive is how easily Matlab handles all this stuff. Massive time saver, that lets you focus on the underlying maths and physics of your system. The Matlab example codes were also chosen for their conciseness. A few powerful commands in each example. Your code for your problems may turn out to be more verbose.
