I agree with the other reviews. With Apple's dock you get, well, just a dock. OK you get two inserts. With this Maxell dock you get both USB and Firewire cables, the power adapter, a line out cord, and three inserts. One other bonus is that the inserts are wider than Apple's so I don't need to remove my cover to dock it.
The only negative is that the line out doesn't seem to support the video connection for the iPod photo.

I just rec'd the dock and got it hooked up, seems to work just as well as the Apple dock I have, with a ton more flexibility and a better price. Initial impressions are 5 stars all around, I'm giving it a 4 because it's a new product with no durability track record. I can tell you that if it holds up I will definately be picking up additional Maxell accessories!

Do yourself a favor...don't spend the bucks for Apple's iPod dock when you get more for less money with the Maxell P-3. If you need the cool white color, this dock has it. If your are worried about whether or not your iPod will fit, the dock comes with inserts for different sizes, up to 60 GB. I even put my 4th generation 20 GB iPod, which has a skin on it, in my charger. Need cables? The Maxell dock has everything you need. You can connect to speakers or your Mac/PC from the dock. And, yes, the P-3 really does charge. Unless you absolutely must have fruit on your iPod dock, go with the Maxell P-3.

I bought this and have been enjoying it ever since. It is incredibly convenient and well worth the purchase. Personally I believe that all iPods should come with a dock. But not the Apple dock or Apple stereo connectivity kit because they are too expensive for what you get. This product works with my 60GB iPod photo, comes with all the cables I need and they are long enough to reach where I need them to.

I just bought an iPod 5g with video, and needed a way to charge it and play it at the office. I went to the electronics store in search of an Apple dock, but they were out so I bought the Maxell P-3 unit instead. It turned out to be a great choice...less expensive for more features. There are multiple connection options, incuding an audio output, USB and Firewire. It works great. The only con is the package did not include a base converter for the 5G video iPod (hey, its only been out a week), but an email confirmed that they are in the works and will be out shortly. The dock is not compatible with teh adapter that was provided with the iPod packaging.

If you want to save a few bucks and snag a great product, give this one a look....

This is a great dock for the new Video IPOD. It works great with Iskin covers. Now there is no real reason to remove your cover to dock your IPOD.

This dock is awesome! Looks great--has grey trim that matches white iPod's click wheel. I even think it looks better than Apple's new universal Dock. It even is compatible with the iSkin! I have a 5G 60GB and it fits like a glove without any case using the 15/20/30 insert, and without any insert it will accomodate the 5G 60GB with an iSkin! Has a cool blue light that lights up when connected to AC power(which'll cost another 30+ bucks from Apple). This is a steal at this price. The only people who should not consider this are those that need the S-Video out, or remote.

Long story short... this charger is not compatible with the 2G Touch. You will see an error message saying "charging hardware not supported" I tried this charger with my 2G nano and it works beautifully. Slim profile, everything works the way it is supposed to and one of the few docks I've noticed that have a backing to help support some of the weight. All in all a great product if it was only compatible with the Ipod touch 2G.

I didn't read too closely before purchase, but I have an Ipod Touch 4g.
**This item only works as a sync/charge dock.
Details when using with an Ipod Touch:
- The A/C adapter doesn't work to charge (you see the "Charging not supported" message)
- connected to a PC or a USB power adapter this DOES charge/sync the Ipod Touch
- the firewire can be used for sync, although I didnt test that
- lineout/video out are NOT enabled

So my review is this: since a second charge/sync cable is more expensive than this item, go for it with the understanding that it has limited functionality. IF you have older Ipods as well then this should be great.

For almost half the price(compared to the apple dock), you get get a dock and all the included accessories. Charger works great and the unit has a quality build.
