5.0 out of 5 stars Maxells XL11 110 will excel you for you!, July 3, 2007

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent", a former radio disc-jockey, and a collector of music I am often asked to write and or discuss various tape products as well as recordings from the 60's and 70's.

The Maxell XL2 and XL2S have long been the standard for blank chrome tapes (Position 2). The long term reliability is superlative as well as the initial quality.

I have used thousands of Maxell tapes the past three decades plus and have never been disappointed with their audio tape or video.

In order to receive the optimum performances please keep the tape heads clean. If they are not regardless of the great product, you will hear a muddy sound on playback.

For tapes that have a greater length of time than 100 minutes please make sure you are using a high end tape deck. The tape itself is thinner and breakage is a greater possibility if it is passing through the heads of a less expensive machine. If you are not sure the Maxell 60, 90, and 100 minute XL2 or XL2S will be perfect.

For music recording Maxell's chrome tape will surpass the harshest critic's expectations. If you are recording voice, only Maxell's Position 1 (Normal Bias) will be suitable for your needs.

Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

5.0 out of 5 stars My Friends Think I'm Crazy..., January 27, 2008

...because I still prefer to record onto cassette tapes instead of recordable CD's. Why do I prefer this method over the very modern recordable CD's? Let me count the ways:
1) Long-Lasting - I still have tapes that I've made back in the 1970's and they sound every bit as good today as they did back then.
2) Durability - Re-read number one...how many people can say anything even close to that about their CD's that are only a couple years old? My tapes have been on vacations, to the beach, at bonfires, through extremes in the weather...and continue to play perfectly.
3) Quality - I will put my homemade cassettes against any CD and I will defy anyone to hear the difference. Now, I'm not talking playback on your home system, I mean in car or portable blaster systems. Even my very modern teenagers are impressed with the sound quality (and I rarely impress them with anything!).
4) I have literally thousands of homemade tapes. You'll have to put me in bedlam first before I re-record them all onto a CD.

Now, mind you, do not think I am anti-cd - I am a very big fan of CD's, and use them to make my countless various artists tapes. I also rarely play my homemade tapes on my home stereo. They are pretty much strictly for the car.
I have found these Maxell High-Bias tapes to be the best of the best - the longest lasting quality blank cassette tapes out there. That's why I continue to purchase them over others available.
