1.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful!, April 4, 2008
Do not buy a Maytag frontload washer. Our $1000, top of the line Maytag washer froze up because a quarter slipped thru the filter system into the motor. The result was a $300 repair bill. To us, there is something wrong with a filtering system that would allow something as large as a quarter to slip thru. I guess a button could come off a piece of clothing next week, get into the motor and we would have the problem again. However, Maytag would not stand behind their product and cover this expense. The customer service managers were not very nice folks and could care less about this potential ongoing problem. A long time consumer of maytag products, I have purchased my last. Things have surely changed....in customer servcie as well as quality...with Maytag products.

1.0 out of 5 stars Epic Z = Epic Problems from A-Z! Don't BUY!, July 1, 2010
This review is from: Maytag : MHWZ400TQ Washer
As my grandmother would say: Goodness Gracious Sakes Alive! Don't BUY THIS! The cement block becomes unbalanced, and it walks all over the place. The repairman comes out and states "Oh yeah, the cement block isn't tightened down to hold the tub down". Then he tightens it and you think all is ok. UNTIL....It happens less than a month later. So he comes back to tighten it again. We had to have the Washer Tub replaced because the cement block banged up against it so much it broke it.

NO WHIRLPOOL and NO MAYTAG EVER AGAIN!

2.0 out of 5 stars Breaks down every 6 months, June 16, 2010

AS another reviewer said - little coins, hair clips, etc get stuck in the motor and make it not work. What - no filter that actually prevents this? No wonder the reviews are so bad

1.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Lesson, May 17, 2010

I purchased this washing machine 21 months ago and it recently began making a lot of noise during the spin cycle. I just had the Maytag repairman out and he informed me one of the bearings had gone out. He would have to take the machine back to the shop to do the repair. Apparently the repair parts are $250+ and the labor is $650+, resulting in a repair bill of over $900. I paid somewhere around $1000-$1100 when I bought this washer. If I wanted to get another one of these machines, I can buy one online for less than $600 - but I'm not sure that is even the right thing to do. The only good thing is I would have a complete machine (less the bad bearing) to use for spare parts. I have always owned Maytag washers & dryers, but maybe it is time to find something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nightmare Machine, June 2, 2011
By
This review is from: Maytag : MHWZ400TQ Washer
Since the first month stuff from socks to underware get stuck where the water leaves the machine, reciently I found one of my BIG socks in the soap dispenser out take tube, dont know how that happen. In order to do this I took apart the whole machine, not something for the normal person looking for a reliable machine at a $800 price range. Or you can pay a repair man to come for $159 to solve this problem once a month. I am going back to a top loader but a HE top loader hope this one works!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars washer is useless, February 24, 2011

This review is from: Maytag : MHWZ400TQ Washer
I have had this washer for 2 years and have had problems with it since the beginning. First the motor becomes disconnected to its bracket. Then the barings on the tub are bad so the tub needs to be replaced. Then you think the washer is going to work from now on. Guess again. A few months later the service guy comes out and says the computer needs to be replaced. A few months later the pump. Then they get it to work again and 5 months later. The computer, the pump need to be replaced again. The service guy says that the parts exceed the waranty limit so here I wait for a washer that works for a large family. So if you need a washer that you can wash clothes in every day, this is not it. Don't buy this one. The service guy told me this washer can only wash 5 loads a week on average. Tested and not approved!!
