I bought the Maztang snow thrower on Amazon.com for my in-laws in Minneapolis.
Kudos to Amazon.com for the incredibly speedy & free shipping. The unit was
received a few days later. The assembly was self explanatory. I was ready to
clear some snow on the driveway after 15 minutes. The snow was about 6 inches
thick, but we get very wet snow here in Minneapolis, MN. This snow blower cuts
right through the snow with ease. After multiple passes back and forth, the job
was done. It seems to be a sturdy and well-built piece of equipment. I had owned
a Toro snow blower before, but the Maztang brand performs just as well and
definitely gets the job done but at half the cost.

MAZTANG MT988 18 INCH ELECTRIC SNOW BLOWERItem arrived quickly via free shipping, priority mail. But I could hardly believe it when I discovered that the metal tubing on the lower handle was missing holes which needed to be drilled to insert the bolts that hold it on. I was not able to contact the manufacturer; the 866 toll free number didn't work for my area & they didn't answer my email. I drilled the holes in a friend's shop & got it assembled. Shop time would have cost me about $40 without that help. I'm wondering how many other snow blowers got sent out with the defective part. With 38 pounds shipping weight, it would have cost me to send it back; in an email to the manufacturer I asked for a replacement part but got no response. Aside from what amounted to 30 minutes shop time so that I could attach the handle, the blower works fine. - Contacted Amazon customer service via email after writing this review & they are refunding $40 for my time & effort (other choice was sending it back for a full refund). A week later I was able to test it out in 14" of snow & it did better than I had hoped; throws wet snow farther (up to 10 feet) than it did dry snow (only about 4 feet).

Not many reviews on this machine. I bought it from another seller, but I think Amazon's reviews go out widely. I've used it 2 times now this season, so no long-term review, but enough experience I think to give a quality review.

The first snow was a deep (8") wet snow. This machine chewed through it, and flung the snow a good 20 feet, maybe 25....far enough where I could direct snow either direction on my double-car driveway (dependent on wind direction), and not have to re-do any snow.

The second snow was 10" of dry powder. Was able to go through it at a pretty fast pace (finished mine before 3 teenagers huffing along next door finished the theirs). The dry snow didn't fling as far as the wet...maybe 10-15 feet depending on wind.

All in all, very satisfied.

Now for negatives: the machine handle is a bit short for me; I'm 6'1, and I have to bend a bit, and it's just a tad uncomfortable. The wheels on this thing are plastic on a 1/4 steel axle; they are wide wheels, and pick up a lot of snow/ice, and get hard to roll. Lastly, when you first start a pass, you have to push down a bit to get the blower to get to the ground...once underway though, it moves pretty well (minus the ice on the wheels).

And for my comments to others' comments:
"Burning/Electric Smell". I too smelled what the first poster mentioned (the one that gave a 1 star); at first I was concerned it was electrical. But upon inspection, that smell is the rubber blade tips wearing down; they start off with a square edge, but after use, they are angled. On the second use today (I did mine + 3 neighbors the first snow), there was no smell at all. The smell is normal "break in" of the rubber blade tips
"Motor won't run".

After reading the one negative review I hesitated, but decided to give this product and its seller a chance, and I'm so glad that I did. The price was a significant savings compared with similar models, and the product quality is exceptional. The Maztang MT988 Snow Blower is very well built. It delivers great performance, and for the money is an incredible deal. Five stars all the way.

this machine is just great. Yes you should expect to exert some pushing power for a 16" storm that we had here in NJ on 2/9/13 but again I don't think that this was rated for anything above 10". However with some pushing and patience, this does an adequate job. I also followed up my gas blower with the Maztang and got some of the packed snow that the gas blower left behind in the double driveway. This machine did my walk in back of the house (16" of snow), an area not convenient for the gas blower. For the price, you can't beat it.

Everything went together easy and seemed to be pretty solid build. Used it for the first time today after lake effect snow between 6 - 8 inches. This handled everything relatively easy clearing right down the the cement. So far the only thing that I see that could be better is if the wheels were slightly larger, as you have to move it forward at times when pulling it back to free the snow from them. For the price I would definitely recommend it.

I bought this as a temporary replacement for a gas snowblower that went out last year, figuring I'd have to get another gas one soon. I was wrong- this little thing has been working so well I haven't had to buy another one! It's been a year since I purchased mine, and it hangs in there through really heavy northern Wisconsin snow storms. This year has been particularly bad, with over four feet of wet snow at the cabin so far, but I haven't had a problem. The only thing is- like most electric outdoor products- you just need to get used to moving the cord out of the way. I might try modifying it a little this summer by putting some larger wheels on it, which would make it better.
