Amazon.com Review

MBT believes in footwear that makes you better from the ground up.

MBT: The idea of Physiological Footwear
MBT, Masai Barefoot Technology, was invented by Swiss engineer Karl Müller. During a visit to Korea he made the startling discovery that walking barefoot over paddy fields alleviated his back pain. Back in Switzerland, Müller began to develop a footwear technology that would make the natural instability of soft ground such as Korean paddy fields or the East African savannah accessible also to those, who have to walk on hard surfaces. In 1996, after years spent on research and development, Masai Barefoot Technology was mature enough to be launched on the market. MBTs are now available in over twenty countries, and approximately one million pairs of this revolutionary footwear technology are sold every year.

How the anti-shoe is pro-body:
Because of the specially designed sole, wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles.

The key to MBT is its patented sole structure.
The Shank, PU Midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body.

MBT

MBT technology mimicks walking in barefeet.

Wearing MBT mimicks walking on soft, natural ground.

When the heel strikes, the heel sinks into the ground and the body has to stabilize. When the foot rolls forward, there is a controlled rolling over the balancing area towards the ball of the foot. The toe rolls off (without pressure).
MBT
MBT's ensure the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole.

The Anti-Shoe

MBT would like to help people all over the world lead a healthier, more active and happier life. MBT is convinced that human fitness and health are significantly influenced by the way we walk – this conviction has already been substantiated objectively by many scientific studies.

MBT therefore attempts to awaken and strengthen the awareness of physiologically correct walking among people world-wide by disseminating the idea and concept of MBT physiological footwear. The benefits of physiologically correct walking can thus be made available to as many people as possible all over the world, in a straightforward and uncomplicated way.

MBT
MBT's Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity.

MBT's Patented Sole Technology

The Lasting Board binds the upper and lower parts of MBTs together.

The Shank provides firmness to the sole and also ensures the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole.

The PU Midsole with Pivot triggers an active rolling movement and exercises a large number of stabilizing muscles throughout the entire body when walking or standing.

The Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity.

The rubber Outsole protects the Midsole.

Product Description

Footwear with a unique sole construction that mimics the feeling of walking barefoot on sand, activating muscles throughout the body and relieving stress on joints.

3.0 out of 5 stars I own most of the MBT line but not this one, November 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MBT Women's Nama Casual Patent Shoe (Apparel)
I think I own the entire line of MBT for women and have enjoyed the benefits of pain-free walking for years! I tried on the Nama Casual Patent Shoe and decided not to purchase it. It is a very pretty shoe with the patent leather but the patent leather at the back ankle area comes up higher and is very stiff hitting the back of my ankle in an uncomfortable way. There are other MBTs that I prefer to this one for comfort and comfort is very important to me. I think combining patent with a shoe that comes up higher was a bad choice of combo. The patent is stiffer then most of the other MBT shoes and with this shoe coming up higher, this makes it more difficult to put on, remove and walk in comfortably as the stiff part hits the back of my ankle. I prefer other MBT shoes.

MBT technology and superior materials allow many people to walk pain-free that wouldn't otherwise due to a variety of medical conditions. Just read all the testimonies about how people love being able to walk pain-free because of this shoe. If you are just wanting the rocking technology, there are lots of copycats out there such as Skecher and Aspire but the quality of material used does not compare to MBT. Someone told me that I had spent $200 unnecessarily because their shoe was the same and I went and tried on the Skecher and Aspire and let me tell you that yes they rock but the quality of materials used is not the same at all. The MBT absorbs shock 1000 times better than Skecher or Aspire for one thing which is crucial to my shoe selection for me.

MBT technology also "raises your bottom line" and if you aren't used to them, you will be needing to stretch out and you will be sore let me warn you. A neighbor told me they read a newspaper article that said toning shoes don't work and all i can say is they must not have worn MBT! Anyone switching to MBT from other non-toning shoes will wake up the next morning SORE like you overdid it at the gym. Muscles would not get sore like that if they were not getting more exercise than they are used to. Also when one gets to be over 30 or 40 years old, your balance muscles start deteriorating which is why you hear of senior losing their balance and falling down; the tone-up shoes target these balance muscles.

Here is my summary on the MBT shoes I have:

SHOES:
best walking - grey Maliza (and the Casual Black which I think is discontinued)
most comfortable - Kaya Mary Jane
best for long narrow feet - Fora
best for longer feet - Baridi
best for small ankles - Patent Nama
best for large/swollen ankles - Sport
most annoying - Chapa Trail

SANDALS:
prettiest - Staka
best walking - Kisumu I / II
best for long narrow feet - Habari

For those on a budget, I get just as much toning benefit and pain-free walking with Rebook SimplyTone. The SimplyTone also works your inner and outer thigh and gives more of a leg workout than a bottom-line workout. It offers just as much shock absorption and pain-free walking as the MBT and both are better than the Mephisto line for shock absorption which is what I wore previously.

MBTs run small compared to other shoes. In MBT, I wear a full-size (not half-size) larger than in most other shoes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Choose another style of MBTs, December 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have worn MBTs for over 2 years and love them. The fabric of this style is very stiff and makes it uncomfortable when walking and trying to manuever the velcro straps when putting on and taking them off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great walking shoes, July 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like this walking shoes a lot: they do not look bulky or ugly, are pretty light and provide great support for the feet, while reducing the negative impact on both leg and hip joints from walking on hard surfaces. I also like the fact that I do not need to lace these shoes up - they have velcro.

They are true to size - I wear size 9 (women's), and the pair I received in that size fits just great.
Well designed and very well made.
Feet feel great because of the support they get and because of the soft cushioning of the sole that acts as a shock absorber.
Much less stress on both leg and hip joints.
I am in pretty good shape, but I did feel that these shoes made my leg muscles exercise more.
Made me another inch taller.
Make me stand and walk straight (I tend to slouch at times).
I wear them with jeans and they do not look any different than a pair of sneakers.

Overall - great walking shoes! Would highly recommend them!
