Product Description

MBT believes in footwear that makes you better from the ground up.

MBT: The idea of Physiological Footwear
MBT, Masai Barefoot Technology, was invented by Swiss engineer Karl Müller. During a visit to Korea he made the startling discovery that walking barefoot over paddy fields alleviated his back pain. Back in Switzerland, Müller began to develop a footwear technology that would make the natural instability of soft ground such as Korean paddy fields or the East African savannah accessible also to those, who have to walk on hard surfaces. In 1996, after years spent on research and development, Masai Barefoot Technology was mature enough to be launched on the market. MBTs are now available in over twenty countries, and approximately one million pairs of this revolutionary footwear technology are sold every year.

How the anti-shoe is pro-body:
Because of the specially designed sole, wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles.

The key to MBT is its patented sole structure.
The Shank, PU Midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body.

MBT

MBT technology mimicks walking in barefeet.

Wearing MBT mimicks walking on soft, natural ground.

When the heel strikes, the heel sinks into the ground and the body has to stabilize. When the foot rolls forward, there is a controlled rolling over the balancing area towards the ball of the foot. The toe rolls off (without pressure).
MBT
MBT's ensure the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole.

The Anti-Shoe

MBT would like to help people all over the world lead a healthier, more active and happier life. MBT is convinced that human fitness and health are significantly influenced by the way we walk – this conviction has already been substantiated objectively by many scientific studies.

MBT therefore attempts to awaken and strengthen the awareness of physiologically correct walking among people world-wide by disseminating the idea and concept of MBT physiological footwear. The benefits of physiologically correct walking can thus be made available to as many people as possible all over the world, in a straightforward and uncomplicated way.

MBT
MBT's Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity.

MBT's Patented Sole Technology

The Lasting Board binds the upper and lower parts of MBTs together.

The Shank provides firmness to the sole and also ensures the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole.

The PU Midsole with Pivot triggers an active rolling movement and exercises a large number of stabilizing muscles throughout the entire body when walking or standing.

The Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity.

The rubber Outsole protects the Midsole.

Add some youthful appeal to your look while you get in shape with the MBT Sirima. This women's mary jane features a premium leather upper with an adjustable hook-and-loop strap. An antimicrobial Dry&Cool mesh and foam sock lining allows for breathability and assists moisture management. The perforated EVA insole provides added cushioning with antibacterial treatment to reduce odor. This MBT toning shoe also has a durable rubber outsole that offers lightweight support with excellent traction. Discover the new way to get fit in the MBT Sirima!

I've been interested in MBT shoes for over a year but never wanted to pay 200+ dollars for a pair of shoes. That's more than I paid for my netbook! These better be some magic shoes. At 12, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, so live with constant low back pain/pressure. Added to that, I have high arches that cause heel pain, plus arthritic knees and weak ankles. Barely into my 30s, good shoes are a must. I wanted to try toning/rocking shoes for the fitness and health benefits but never wanted the MBT price tag...till now.

I went to THE WALKING COMPANY at our local mall fully intending to just try on the MBT Sirima to make sure of my size before ordering online. One step gave me instant relief on my back pain/pressure. I knew I would hate myself if I cheaped out and walked out of that store without them. I thought I'd always have to live with the pain. Now I know I don't. Some insurance companies will reimburse the cost of MBT shoes as durable medical equipment. I'm calling mine to see. Even if they don't cover the cost, I'm still extremely happy with my purchase. . .high price tag and all.

I've tried nearly all the similar shoes that claim to do the same in "toning" and "therapeutic" benefits and, in case you're wondering, here's how they compare based on my experiences:

-Sketcher Shape Ups: closest you're going to get to MBTs without the high price tag. They use different material, though, and wear out quickly. Pretty comfy, but better for fitness than pain relief I think. The "rocking" soles works best for heel and back problems. Costco now sells them for $49.

-Reebok EasyTone: Cuter and more comfortable than Sketchers. The "pods" are easier to get used to walking in.

Before I bought my first pair of MBTs, osteoarthritis in one foot and plantar fascitis in the other were limiting my ability to walk. MBTs made an immediate difference and gave me back the ability to walk all day without foot pain -- not only that, lower back pain also lessened. If my feet are ever giving me problems, I wear MBTs for a day and the pain goes away. They've made a believer out of me!

However, they are rather heavy-looking shoes, so they don't go with all outfits. Even this Sirima, which is about as sleek as MBTs get, is not still not high-style, but it is attractive for a casual shoe.

Although MBTs seem very heavy when you hold them, they do not feel that way on your feet. They give much better arch support than shoes with similarly shaped soles, e.g. Skechers. They last forever, even with hard use, and I think the company will resole them (haven't had to do this yet).

THE CONS: They tend to run wide, so if you have a narrow foot like me (AA), look for an adjustable style. (Even though the Sirima is wide, it does stay on my foot and aligned very well.) They are not especially good for broken-ground walking, as relatively little of the sole is on the ground at any one time.

MBTs are relatively expensive, but very well made and overall good value.

These shoes are awesome! They are as promised, super comfortable. First of all you don't need to break them in. I've had them for a week now and I haven't experienced any blisters or discomfort with or without socks. I've spent 2 days walking around Hong Kong which is very hilly and they have protected my feet and especially my bad knee every well. I'm so pleased with them I've just order another pair of MBT shoes, the Habari for the summer.

One thing I didn't like which has nothing to do with the shoes, is that I had to pay for delivery considering they cost $265, I think delivery should be free.

Very nice, solid shoe...a bit awkward to get used to the rounded sole but very promising for long-term stability and wear. Arrived in timely fashion and good shape.

I love MBTs, Took away my intense sciatic pain 5 years ago. I have been buying the normal half size bigger which for me would be an 8. The sirima is bigger than normal. I could have gotten a 71/2. Don't know if company is adjusting sizes. I bought 3 pairs of 8s this summer-no problem. sirima are good looking for a MBT and could even be worn with skirt while traveling.

After having problems with my knees my podiatrist recommended MBT footwear. I experienced immediate pain relief the moment I stood up. I love the shoe. Only one minor issue, a rivet was missing from the metal tab on the velcro closure. The shoes are expensive and I hate to send it back. Will contact MBT for possible repair.
