Darril Gibson, MCITP, MCSE, MCT, is a well-respected trainer, educator, and author. He is currently working as an independent trainer for the United States Air Force, providing training on Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Windows XP, SQL Server, Visual Basic, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+. After a 22 year Navy career working with computers and electronics, I've turned my attention to computers, teaching and writing, especially related to IT certifications.

I've been focused on IT-related security quite a bit in the last few years, teaching, writing, and editing. I have written security related books including books on Security+, SSCP, MTA Security, Risk, and more.

I had already been studying the 70-646 before picking this book up but I had some holes in my knowledge. This book filled in all the holes and helped me pass the 70-646 on the first try. It's laid out in a simple to follow format, is easy to read, and covers all the objectives.

As with all the Sybex test prep books I've seen lately, it has a wealth of practice test questions at the end of every chapter and on the CD test engine that really helped me test my knowledge before taking the live exam. The questions helped me identify my weak areas, and the relevant information was easy to find and understand in the book.

Although it wasn't available when I purchased this book, I've found that you can buy it as part of a full kit MCITP: Windows Server 2008 Server Administrator Certification Kit for the 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646 exams.

I'm am an IT Server Admin. I bought this book to prepare for the 70-646 Exam.

It's an "ok" book but it's not ordered very well. Going through the lab exercises you'll find that they are just out of order. It could hav been a lot better if they would have changed the order of the chapters.

If you've got a good understanding of what Windows Servers can do and experience, then this book should work for you, if you are completely new to windows servers, I wouldn't use this book.

This is a great book for newbies and a quick reference for experienced admins. This doesn't cover everything and isn't the holy grail for Server 2008, but for the items listed in the Table of Contents... it covers them well enough for you to understand it along with examples and review questions. For an overall understanding you can also get the other 2 MCTS books 70-640 and 70-642.
