I have found Sybex books very helpful when preparing for MCSE certification exams. A combination of reading this book, hands on experience and taking transcender pretest exams helped me score a 900 on this exam in April of 2003.
If you are pursuing your Windows 2000 MCSE a word of advice, don't stop and start. Set a goal with a time frame and get it done. It's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best study guides. New edition adds better questions., August 17, 2001

Working with several different study guides in our training center, we've concluded that the Sybex series of study guides is the best on the market. Some students complained that the first editions didn't have adequate questions. Sybex made some big changes for this edition and now the questions pretty much hit the mark. This book has many such questions, including an adaptive exam and select and place questions, and it has Palm OS flashcards which are also a good way to quickly brush up on the details you need to know for the exam. The CD also contains WinSims, as Sybex calls them. They are basically step-by-step videos (avi files) of how to do the exercises in the book, with a few interactive examples thrown in (we use these as supplements to our classroom instruction, suggesting that students review certain videos on topics we don't have time to cover.) The videos are a great way to actually see what the exercises explain. Like any book dealing with the new MCSE track, you can't just read the text and pass the exam. That just doesn't work any more (back to reality, folks.) Students have to put in their time working with Win2k (although working on the WinSims is a realistic substitute for many things.) Overall, excellent set of books, and definitely much better than the MSPress books and, as a whole package, better than Osbourne's.

4.0 out of 5 stars MCSE Windows 2000 Professional - Study Guide (70-210), January 27, 2002

Good book. However, the questions in this book are much easier than the actual exam questions. I read this book with the corresponding Exam Cram book and passed the exam on the first try. I also used many of the online practice tests available.

Don't plan on passing the exam using this book alone. Study from other sources too!

I decided to become an mcse, so i bought the core four set from sybex. I read this book and went for the test. I can say it it was enough to pass. The book is well organized and included a lot of helpful tips. The only problem was that some functions like the "winnt" wasn't detailed. My advice is to buy this book, but to be on the safe side read it along with the w2k server before passing the test. GOOD LUCK !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars win2000 exam 070-210 - Complete, friendly, and hands-on..., August 30, 2003

I passed my test today, and it was mainly due to this book! I used this as my primary study book, with the Dummies and ExamCram books being 2nd and 3rd sources of info respectively. All 3 are great books, but this Sybex book is by far the most complete and user-friendly when it comes to hands-on exercises and experience-based learning. I actually use 2000 Professional extensively (with this book), which helps tremendously with this test! The many screenshots in the book are high-quality too, and go well with the basic WinSim exercises on the CD. Visually & organizationally speaking, this is the most impressive book of the three! People can potentially pass using only this book! Because it's not in as easy to carry format as the others though, I found it helpful to use the additional books, at least when studying on-the-go. ExamCram and the Dummies books are great for this very reason: they're short, focused, to-the-point, and can be easily studied anywhere. I highly recommend using at least one of these books along with this Sybex book (as complete as it is), because the exam is crazy-difficult! I'm A+ and Network+ certified, used all three books, and I still feel fortunate to have passed. I kind of rushed through the material in these other books though, so had I failed it would have been on me and not these books. With certifications, it seems you can never be too prepared, but you have to take the test sometime!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than any other guide, September 25, 2001

First of all, let me make this clear. "You cannot pass the exam by just studying this guide".
But amongst all the other guides in the market, this guide by Sybex is the best.

Sybex products are the best, i have compared them many times with other publishers. Sybex always stands out.

I passed the exam (70-210) and (70-215) by using Sybex's guides together with Coriolis' Exam Crams and Braindumps. This is enough for anyone to pass the exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book from Sybex, September 16, 2002

This review is from: MCSA/MCSE:Windows 2000 Professional Study Guide (2nd Ed) (Hardcover)
I highly reccomend this book to anyone who wishes to undertake the 70-210 exam. I used this book along with trancenders q's and I passed the test. The book was very clear and I had no problems understanding it. It wasnt boring, like some certification books are. If a certification book is dull and boring you will have no motivation to read it - this book is the opposite, its an easy read. I reccomend also they you do a fair ammount of practice q's as well, then you will understand what the q's are asking you, and what your expected to know. You may know the answer to the question, but the way the question is worded you think you have no idea.
All in all a good book

I thought this book had good information but found it hard to read. I switched to Syngress study guide and found that book easy to read with plenty of good information to prepare you for the exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book!!, December 24, 2001
This review is from: MCSA/MCSE:Windows 2000 Professional Study Guide (2nd Ed) (Hardcover)
Is a good book. You can find most of topics well covered and they are explaining in a good way, easy way.
Of course, nobody can pass any test using one book. You must use others resources like cramsessions and Transcenders! And yes, why not...Troytec Study guides too, but just for a quick review.
I dont give 5 star 'cause the "review questions", for me, are not so difficult. Authors must make more difficult question and more similar to "real test".

5.0 out of 5 stars This exam notes book is the best yet!, August 18, 2000

Windows 2000 Professional Exam Notes is definitely the best exam notes book that I have ever read. Matthew Sheltz is a great new addition to the James Chellis team. This book is extremely readable, and conveys a ton of useful information in a really concise manner. The "key terms and concepts" and "sample questions" sum up the information in a way that makes studying a breeze! Thanks to this book I have no doubt that I will pass the Professional Exam. If you are interested in taking this test, puchasing this book will be the best $24.99 you have ever spent! 5 STARS!
