5.0 out of 5 stars MCSD: Designing and Implementing Web Sites, December 13, 1999
This review is from: MCSD: Designing and Implementing Web Sites Using Microsoft FrontPage 98 (Hardcover)
This book is a must have if you're taking the FrontPage 98 exam (70-055), the author handles topics in a follow along fashion which allow you to go through the steps to better understand the process involved in managing a FrontPage website, The reason this is so important is that we fall into our own habits and the test doesn't care so much that you know what you are doing but the how and why of it. This book allows you to grasp that. The book also has test questions at the end of each section with answers at the end of the book, the Author also adds a website with a great exam which can be taken on line to better help prepare you. Although I didn't care much for the CD included with the book, for someone who is just learning FrontPage it may be a good addition. With this book MCP should be no problem. As a follow up for people who like me have been using FrontPage 2000 for a while now, this book serves as a great refresher to FrontPage 98.

5.0 out of 5 stars Response to 9/11 review, September 13, 2000
This review is from: MCSD: Designing and Implementing Web Sites Using Microsoft FrontPage 98 (Hardcover)
I sympathize with the reader who posted the review on 9/11. The FrontPage MCSD Exam is difficult, costly, and requires all of us who take it to set aside hours, even weeks of unpaid time to study and prepare. On top of all that, the exam format and testing environment are both very difficult.

But... none of that really validates the readers conclusion that he failed the test because of my book. Any long, technical book will have a few minor errors like the one noted by the reader, and in this case, I post corrections at the book's Web site as soon as I'm notified of them.

People who buy this book and embark on the preparation process for the 70-055 exam should understand what they're in for. My book cannot compensate you for prep time, training classes, or do anything about the high cost of the exam. The book simply organizes and presents the information required to pass the test. I think the book is a good value - it includes a free introductory-level FrontPage training CD. But some readers will need to take additional FrontPage training to prepare them to pass the FrontPage MCP exam.

The sample tests in the book and the online exam cover the material in the test, but cannot duplicate the exact interactive format of the exam itself. Finally, as other readers have noted, my Web site provides many additional helpful resources for passing the exam including a forum for exchanging experiences.

Readers who are already experts at FrontPage seem to find the book very helpful in preparing for the sometimes strange and obscure skills required for the exam. For other FrontPage developers preparing for the exam, a book like Teach Yourself FrontPage 98 in a Week is a better place to start.

There are many resources for preparing for the FrontPage MCP exam, and used in that context I think my book is valuable.

Note: I included stars in this posting only because an entry in that field is required to post a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, March 14, 2000
This review is from: MCSD: Designing and Implementing Web Sites Using Microsoft FrontPage 98 (Hardcover)
I found this book to be very, very reader friendly. Especially if you are familiar with Front Page.I feel very confident that I will pass the MCP Course. If you have never used Front Page however, and plan on using it as your Site Management tool, I would recommend getting the Front Page Bible 98 along with this book to give you some more creative & developement methods for Front Page. I would also recommend, if your not familiar with Front Page already, that you take the 'Study Break' questions he has seriously and work through them until you have an understanding of the material. All in all, David did a great job. Hope this review helps and good luck with the test if you are headed in that direction.
