5.0 out of 5 stars The only book I used..., January 30, 2000
By

This review is from: MCSD Test Success: Visual Basic 6 Desktop (Paperback)
..And I passed this exam on the first try with a score of 857. No, this book cannot guarantee everyone will get that score, but no book can do that. And I do not recommend this be your only studying resource, but again, I would not likely recommend any one source be your only studying resource. To respond to some of the complaints so far...

Chapters 3 and 4 have two more answers than questions in the review questions section. The first two answers for each chapter can be ignored. (ie. Question 1 corresponds to answer 3, 2 to 4, 3 to 5, etc) Yes there are fill in the blank questions...why is this a problem? There are a couple of questions with incorrect answers...but you just paid for a book containing 600 review questions - stop whining.

I've used this series and the free transcender demos as the primary source for my studying. In that way I have completed about 6-700 questions prior to the actual exam. I'm 3/4 done my MCSD and have passed every exam on the first try.

My congratulations to the author and publisher for offering a cheap book to complement a student's studying efforts. There should be no complaints about this book...it delivers exactly what a book this price should. But if you want to pass, you have to use the product. I think the other reviewers expected they could read this book and pass (I'm assuming they didn't pass)...but you didn't simply read a book prior to your drivers license exam did you?

1.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete and misleading, September 17, 1999
By A Customer

I concur with other reviews of this book. Not only is it incomplete but also misleading (e.g. ADO Static cursors are NOT read only). Many of the sample questions are ambiguous or have incorrect answers. Not a good use of your money!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best choice..., July 8, 2000

I took the test and passed 6/30/00 and used this book to help prepare. It's a good thing that this wasn't the only book I used. I won't repeat the previous reviews complaining of the lack of information, inaccurate information, and horribly mismatched answer keys (alhtough its all true), but I will give you an idea as to whether this book is right for you or not. The information that it does go over is explained very well so if VB is very foreign to you, this book might be a good one to start with. (...but don't think you're ready for the test when you finish) There are also a lot of review question which do a good job of hammering points home. You can usually figure out where the answer keys are wrong so if you're willing to put up with it the review questions are a good reinforcement. At any rate 2 stars. It isn't a complete waste of a book for a VB beginner. However, the editor was apparently on vacation prior to the books being published and it does not remotely prepare you for the MCP certification test.
