5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good
This book (I have not read it all) looks better than the the Exam Cram one. For that one guy who studied the whole material in the weekend and took the test on a Sunday; where in this country can people take the test on a Sunday??

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, not a learning tool, April 16, 1999
This review is from: MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 Exam Prep (Exam: 70-081) (Paperback)
I found this book to be a good road map of an already simple Exchange Administrator interface. There was some information on Exchange, but it was vague and incomplete. For the most part, the reader is told where to set a given setting, but little information was given on the impact of that setting.

The gap between writers was also very transparent. This was very distracting.

There was also some incorrect and confusing information in the book. The section about MS Mail Connector Directory Synchronization Server and requiring a Requestor for each post office is a good example of this. This is not true. Each post office is a requestor, but they lead you to believe you need to install a requestor on the connector for each post office in existence.

Overall, this might be a decent book in preparation to take the test, but you might want to pick another if you want to run Exchange Server.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't make this your only reference, November 8, 1999
By A Customer

I had this book and the Transcender exam for Exchange 5.5. It's a good thing I had the Transcender stuff. I've been working with Exchange for over a year in single-site configurations, but needed something to get wise to multi-site configurations, etc. This book wasn't enough. Maybe it was just the fact that I kept falling asleep over it, but there seemed to be major sections that the Transcender exam covered well that this didn't touch at all. All in all, a disappointment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book not bad, support not the greatest thing in the world., September 30, 1999

Book seems OK. However if you're thinking about emailing them for a question/corections, I suggest that you don't. You're never gonna get a reply back anyways.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow, but not practical for the exam, March 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 Exam Prep (Exam: 70-081) (Paperback)
I just finished my Exchange Server 5.5 exam, using this book to study from. While the book itself is not a bad read, and is great about showing you step-by-step how to navigate Exchange itself, the end-of-chapter review questions were completely irrelevant for the exam. Spend more time with the Case Projects problems, and that will give you more of an idea how the adaptive exam is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but I would buy the New Riders next time, March 29, 1999

This book is just OK. I think the format is very dull, but it will get you where you want to go if you have experiance. I found it lacking in certain areas, especially when it comes to all of the switches for different utilities. Also I do not think that it goes in depth enough on certain subjects. Not that it is a bad book, but I do think that there are better. I'm not new to this as Exchange 5.5 was my 6th exam, and I am now an MCSE. There are definately better study aids available. P.S. Try to find a book that includes the Eval edition of Exchange 5.5 if you do not have access to an Exchange server. This will help a LOT!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent theory with brilliant realworld information, February 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 Exam Prep (Exam: 70-081) (Paperback)
This book is fantastic. Extremely well presented and organised, it provides the ideal platform to study for the exam, as well as making a brilliant resource to have on hand when troubleshooting. Unlike some other MSPress titles, this goes beyond teaching expert-user skills, it also points out very useful realworld pitfalls and problems when installing and running Exchange. Exchange 5.5 was my 11th MS exam, and this book was essential in understanding the Product and passing the exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED AS YOUR SECOND REFERENCE, September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Exchange Server 5.5 Exam Prep (Exam: 70-081) (Paperback)
I USED THIS BOOK TOGETHER WITH THE MOC TO PASS MY EXCHANGE SERVER 5.5 EXAM. I AM NOW A MCSE.

I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT EXCHANGE SERVER. IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE PROFFESIONALS. IT COVERS THE BASIC ADMINISTRATION INFORMATIONS BUT NOT MUCH OF PRACTICAL STUFF e.g. LOTUS NOTES CONNECTIVITIES. DON'T JUST CONCENTRATE ON THIS BOOK, TRY TO LOOK AROUND FOR OTHERS.
