This is my second book from Cram series and tell you this that I studied only this book and some brain dumps, that was it . I passed my exam yesterday with good point. The book covers almost everything which you might expect in the exam. I found the Review questions and explanation for each question at the very last chapters helpful. 2.0 out of 5 stars Hated it!
I bought this book strictly on recommendations written here. Even though I was warned not to, I bought the Sybex Test Success book also. Yes, Sybex had some errors. But Exam Cram's questions were nothing like the questions I got in the actual test. Sybex's were very close! And in the case where there were errors, I noticed it right away. 5.0 out of 5 stars I passed my test using this book!, February 2, 2000

I want to say that I found this book to be extremely helpful. My knowledge going into this was at a very minimum, at best. I bought the book on a Saturday afternoon, took the test Tuesday and passed. It's organized so well. The sample questions are right on with those on the actual MCSE exams. What I like most was it's layout, easy to read. No big lengthy explanations that you get lost in the words over. To the point. Also, they not only explain why the answer is right, but why the wrong ones aren't right. Very helpful! I just bought another one of their books. Wish I'd have known about them for the first 4 exams! Try it, you'll like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 15, 1999
By A Customer
It is a wonderful book. This is the only thing that I use to present the exam 70-059 (without any exams practices as Transcenders) during two weeks and I obtained a score of 866. The practice exams of the book are as strong as the real exam. Fabulous.

My recommendation is to always use TWO different study guides. Usually one will fit your studying style better. Don't always go by what is in these reviews!!!

The Exam Cram books are great. I've used many of them and have the entire series.

I think this one leaves a little to be desired in that it needs to be bigger, with more sample problems. Never-the-less, this is the book I would and did choose to start studying with.

I recommend that anyone using this book supplement their studies with practice tests, flash card questions, and other books.

Index:

1. Microsoft Certification Tests

2. Concept and Planning: TCP/IP and Windows NT 4

3. Installation and Configuration

4. IP Addressing

5. Subnet Addressing

6. Implementing IP Routing

7. IP Address Resolution

8. Host Name Resolution

9. Domain Name System (DNS)

10. NetBIOS Name Resolution

11. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

12. Windows Internet Name Service (WINS)

13. Connectivity

14. Implementing the SNMP Service

15. Performance, Tuning, and Optimization

16. Troubleshooting

17. Sample Test

18. Answer Key to Sample Test

The Exam Cram series has always done a good job of distilling complicated information into an easy-to-read format. This book is a good example of this. TCP/IP is not an easy subject. However, this books makes it understandable if not enjoyable. For a more detailed review, feel free to check out MCSETutor.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book rocks., June 24, 1999

This review is from: MCSE TCP/IP Exam Cram (Paperback)
First I ordered MS press's TCP/IP Self Study set, what a waste. I'm glad it wasn't my money. I believed if it came from MS it would provide better in depth information than an "exam cram". While I would recommend a larger text for a reference. Exam Cram is the book for learning basic TCP/IP concepts and to prepare for the test. I passed with a mid 900 score 20% over the required to pass and I credit my success to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise with all the necessary info to Pass, June 25, 2000
Passed with a score of 933. This was not the only book that I read but it is great way to ram home all of those facts towards the end and to know what info is necessary for the test. Do yourself a favour and buy this book but get another to go with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good material, occasionally confusing, July 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE TCP/IP Exam Cram (Paperback)
Exam Cram books are the best test prep books I have read so far. It is the first book I read on a subject and it usually gives a very good account of what you will see on the test. The questions are not easy and are thought provoking.

There are times where the book will assume you have knowledge of something which can get a little confusing. Also a few of the questions on the sample tests are wrong, including questions they inlcuded on the online Adaptive Exam.

Despite the few errors you will run into, the book is full of the information you will need to pass the exam.
